On March 13,1963 Ernesto Miranda was arrested in his house and brought to the police station where he was questioned by police officers in connection with a kidnapping and rape. After 2 hours of interrogation he finally confessed. In court he was found guilty. Miranda appealed to the Supreme Court. He felt his fifth amendment rights were violated because he was pressured by police officers to confess and he was not aware that he could have an attorney present while being interrogated. The Supreme Court agreed and found him not guilty of kidnapping and rape.

Miranda vs. Arizona influenced today's world because today anyone being suspected will be given the same treatment and will be aware of their right to have an attorney present while being interrogated. There will also be no confusion of the fifth amendment. This established Miranda Rights.

The court didn't find Miranda guilty of his crimes. According to the court the interrogation did violate his Fifth Amendment Rights. A defendant was required to be warned before questioning that he had the right to remain silent, and that anything he said can be used against him in a court of law. A defendant was also required to be told that he had the right to an attorney, and if he could not afford an attorney, one was to be appointed for him prior to any questioning if he wished.
