Koulutuksen ensimmäisessä moduulissa esitellään puurakentamisen urapolkuja ja kerrotaan syitä sille miksi rakennusmateriaaliksi kannattaa valita puu. Lisäksi käsitellään puun erityisominaisuuksia rakennusmateriaalina ja tarkastellaan, miten teollinen rakentaminen vaikuttaa rakennushankkeen eri vaiheisiin ja niiden tehokkuuteen.

The first module of the training introduces different career paths in wood construction and reasons why wood should be chosen as primary construction material. In addition to this, the special properties of wood as a building material will be studied and the affects of industrial construction on different phases of a construction project and on their efficiency will be discussed.

Moduulissa 2 käsitellään teollisia rakennusmenetelmiä ja tarkastellaan 2D- ja tilaelementtien valmistuksen erityispiirteitä. Moduulissa käydään läpi tehtaan toimintaa ja sen keskeisiä prosesseja, tutustutaan linjatuotannon ja automaation periaatteisiin ja elementtien ja tilaelementtien valmistukseen unohtamatta sääsuojausta ja varastointia. Lopuksi käsitellään nostoja ja kuljetuksia, jotka ovat olennaisia turvallisen ja tehokkaan tuotannon varmistamiseksi.

Module 2 focuses on methods of industrial construction and the special features of fabricating of 2D and modular units. The module deals with the functions and key processes of the factory, starting with the principles of line production and automation. It covers the manufacture of 2D and modular units, including weather protection and storage. Finally, lifting and transportation, which are essential to ensure safe and efficient production, will be discussed.

Moduulissa 3 käsitellään elementtien käyttöä eri rakennustyypeissä (elementti-, moduuli-, hybridirakentaminen, saneeraus) ja työmaatoimintojen erityispiirteitä tarkastellaan yksityiskohtaisemmin. Esivalmistettujen rakennusten pystytyksen ja viimeistelyn prosessit koostuvat useista keskeisistä vaiheista, joissa korostuvat työturvallisuus ja laadunvalvonta. Näihin vaiheisiin kuuluvat esitarkastus työmaalla sekä elementtien kuljetus, varastointi ja nosto. Lisäksi tullaan käsittelemään kattotöitä, julkisivuelementtien asennusta ja paloturvallisuutta.

3. Erection and finishing of prefabricated buildings

In module 3, the use of elements in different type of buildings (elemental, modular, hybrid construction, and renovation) is discussed, and the special features of operations at construction site are studied in more detail. The process of erecting and finishing prefabricated buildings consists of several key steps, where occupational safety and quality control are emphasized. These steps include a preliminary inspection at the construction site as well as the transport, storage and lifting of the elements. Furthermore, roof work, installation of facade elements and fire safety will be discussed.

Tässä moduulissa keskitytään teollisesti valmistettujen puurakennusten suunnittelun erityspiirteisiin. Puurakentamisen suunnitteluvaiheessa on tärkeää huomioida yksityiskohdat mahdollisimman tarkasti. Suunnittelussa korostuvat esimerkiksi puurakennusten akustiikka, energiatehokkuus sekä puun monipuoliset muotoilumahdollisuudet. Laadukkaalla suunnittelulla voidaan toimintaa työmaalla tehostaa merkittävästi. Moduuli antaa yksityiskohtaisen katsauksen vaatimuksista ja mahdollisuuksista, jotka on huomioitava suunniteltaessa esivalmistettuja puurakennuksia. Käsiteltäviä teemoja ovat paloturvallisuus, akustiikka, tekniset järjestelmät, energiatehokkuus ja vähähiilinen rakentaminen.

4. Design of prefabricated buildings

Module 4 focuses on the special features of the design of industrially manufactured wooden buildings. During the planning phase of wooden construction, it is important to pay attention to the details as accurately as possible. The design emphasizes, for example, the acoustics of wooden buildings, energy efficiency and the versatile design opportunities of wood. By making the design as precisely as possible, operations on the construction site can be speeded up considerably. These topics provide a detailed overview of the requirements and possibilities that must be considered when designing prefabricated wooden buildings. Topics covered include fire safety, acoustics, technical systems, energy efficiency and low-carbon construction.

Suoritettuaan hyväksytysti kaikki teoriaosuudet moduuleista 1-3, voi opiskelija suorittaa työharjoittelun. Työharjoittelu järjestetään yhteistyössä Työtehoseuran kanssa.Harjoittelussa opiskelija pääsee syventymään teollisen rakentamisen periaatteisiin, mm. materiaalivalintoihin, kosteudenhallintaan, palosuojaukseen opettajan avustuksella ensin teoriassa ja sen jälkeen käytännössä, rakentaen kurssin aikana rankarunkoisen puukerrostalon elementtejä.

Learning on the job

After having successfully completed all theory parts of modules 1-3, the student can complete an internship. The internship is organized in cooperation with the Työtehoseura. During the internship, the student gets to delve deeper into the principles of industrial construction, e.g., material choices, moisture management, fire protection with the teacher’s help, first in theory and then in practice, building elements of a rigid wooden apartment building during the course.
