The Civil war in 1840 slowed development. Conflict between the Liberal and Conservative parties led to the War of a Thousand Days (1899–1903). Years of relative peace followed, but hostility erupted again in 1948; the two parties agreed in 1958 to a plan for alternating government</p><p><br></p><p><br></p>]]></description>

This caused a war that lasted 2 entire years. Finnaly in 1825 a peace treaty was signed between Brazil and Portugal.</p>]]></description>

Napolien's overthrow forced Spain to go into two civil wars between two rival goverments. On july 9th 1816 they diclared the country independent but under the United Provinces. Many years of fighting followed until the spanish royalists were defeated.</p>]]></description>
