What's Typology?

Typology refers to the study and systematic classification of types that have common characteristics and motivations. Most people use Typology in Psychology, i.e., to make sense of people's personalities and use it as a point of reference for self-improvement. However, I'd like to point out that typology systems only cover a CERTAIN ASPECT of your personality.

Typology is my niche and geeky interest,

and I continuously study it on the internet through e-books. MBTI/16P and the Enneagram are the most common Typology systems, but I don't use MBTI/16P since I find it flawed—the systems I use and study are Psychosophy by Alexander Afanasyev (my favorite) and the Enneagram by Oscar Ichazo and Claudio Naranjo.

At the age of 7, I was already inclined in reading books and watching documentaries about Ancient Egypt until my interests grew broad to western history. I find theories about economy systems interesting like Karl Marx's study about socialism and critique to capitalism.

I am up to date with both Philippines and American politics (and some other countries as well but not as much as PH & USA) as I do wield a dual citizenship from both countries so it is best for me to keep up on both.

(It might seem like I lean more to HUMSS but I lean more to ABM since I'm more interested with the economical side of politics and I also like Accountancy and Finance)

The enneagram system shows us the nine ways people default to in life. It explains the "why" of everything we do, think, and feel. These nine types are based on our core motivations.

The enneagram types are divided into 3 groups:

The heart triad is concerned with their worth in other's eyes and is fueled by shame (E2-E3-E4)

The head triad is concerned with the volatility of life and is fueled by fear (E5-E6-E7)

The gut triad is concerned with boundaries and autonomy and is fueled by anger (E8-E9-E1)

There are 3 aspects in an enneagram when it comes to typing yourself: Core type (type you relate to the most, i.e., E1) + Instinctual Variant (Your dominant instinct: Self-preservation, social, sexual) = Subtype (I.e., So1). In addition to that, there's also your tritype, which is your core type + your "fixes" in each triad, i.e., 135, where E1 is your Core type, and E3 and E5 are your fixes from the head and gut triad.

Combining everything, the result would be so135

PS: This is just a surface-level explanation; you need more research to type yourself correctly!

Psychosophy is a theory made by Alexander Afanasyev that explores human consciousness and personality through a system of four fundamental aspects, or "functions," that define how people perceive and interact with the world. These functions are:

Volition (Will): Represents your right to fulfilling desires. How able you are to dictate the desires of others and yourself and keep yourself from getting swayed by the influence of others. Will dictates how your other functions work too.

Logic: Involves reasoning, analysis, and the ability to understand and structure information. It's about making sense of the world logically and choosing what to believe for yourself.

Emotion: Reflects a person's connection to their emotional sphere and style of expression. It's about how you express your emotions to others.

Physics: Focuses on the physical world, including bodily sensations, material needs, and sensory experiences. It's about interacting with the physical environment.

When typing yourself using Psychosophy, you just rank the functions from your strongest to weakest aspect.

1st placement: This is the person's strongest and most natural function. It's what they rely on the most and their Trump card.

2nd placement: This function supports the dominant one. It's also strong but flexible like a river, often complimenting and enhancing the 1st function. It is also considered to be the most positive side of a person.

3rd placement: This is a function you're constipated in like an ulcer, you either care or don't care about it.

4th placement: This is an unbothered area for you. It's an area where you avoid and most malleable to.

Example: VLFE (1V, 2L, 3F, 4E)

1. Was the subject Personal Development helpful for you? How did this subject help you know yourself more?

Personal Development was helpful because it allowed me to reflect on my own thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. It guided me in identifying my strengths, weaknesses, and personal values more clearly. Through the activities and discussions, I became more aware of how I handle situations and how I can improve myself moving forward.

2. What were your key takeaways from the subject?

I learned that self-awareness is the foundation of improving one’s emotional and mental well-being. I also realized that relationships, communication, and decision-making all require conscious effort and understanding. The subject taught me that personal growth is a continuous process that requires reflection and intentional change.

3. What two topics were your favorites and why?

My favorite topics were Personal and Social Relationships and Career Pathways. The first helped me understand how to build healthy relationships and communicate better with others. The second guided me in planning my future goals realistically and gave me clarity on the direction I want to take in my career.
