This week's assignment really brought the whole course together for me while also helping me remember my key objectives as a teacher. Sometimes it's easy to lose sight of my primary objectives when there are so many day-to-day details and challenges, but this activity helped me take a step back and remember why I do what I do. I appreciated the opportunity to think through that, and to integrate different concepts from the course into my teaching statement. For the course, I think my favorite week was the one on backward design and assessment. For my least, maybe UDL, not because I don't like that topic, but because I was hoping for some more helpful readings that were easier to glean information from, and that didn't contain old myths that have been disproven by the research (e.g., visual, audio, kinesthetic learning styles). I will continue to grow as an educator by practicing the skills learned here, and by connecting with other educators to learn from them. For a new AE instructor, I would tell them to take a look at backward design to plan instruction, but to learn how to modularize the instruction to allow for the stop-in/stop-out nature of adult ed. I would also tell them that good assessment is the key!
