Singapore has four languages as their official languages. Because there is no primary language in Singapore, they have established a national language: Malay. Malay is the featured language for their national anthem. The anthem is not sung in any language except Malay. The other official languages are Mandarin, Tamil, and English. All four of the languages are in the constitution as official languages.

The climate zone typically in this country is tropical, which contains hot humid, rainy areas. This climate zone also includes monsoons frequently during the afternoon and in the evening after thunderstorms. Major bodies of water include the Malacca Strait, Singapore Strait, the Main Strait, and the Johor Strait. Singapore is made up of 60 islands usually with low lying terrain. This terrain includes 1% of agricultural land, 3.3% of forestry, and the other land takes up 95.7% of Singapore. The Bukit Timah is the highest point and the Singapore Strait is the lowest point in Singapore. Most of the urbanization is along the southern coast, with relatively dense population cluster found in the central areas. Deep water reserves of petroleum is a natural resource in Singapore. Industrial pollution, limited natural freshwater resources, limited land availability, and smoke/haze resulting from forest fires in Indonesia are all environmental issues taking place in Singapore. Singapore started to develop air and water pollution through the process of industrialization. They started using more transportation, building more properties, and advancing in technology while by staying away agriculture. There is contaminated water which is not safe for the people to drink. Also, the air is getting polluted which is not good for humans, plants, or animals to breath. Singapore is making the issue somewhat better. The NEA, National Environment Agency, has set up monitoring stations around the island to keep track of the pollution levels. These monitors measure the quality of the air in order to keep humans, plants, and animals safe from harsh environments.

In Singapore, many different religions are practiced. The major religions practiced are Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism, Christianity, and Taoism; Buddhism is the most prominent of these languages, however, dominating around half of Singapore. Around 42.5% of the total population practice the beliefs of Buddhism, 14.9% are Muslims, 14.8% are non-religious, 14.6% practice Christianity, 8.5% are Taoists, and a mere 4% practice Hinduism. Due to the large range of religions, Singapore is described as one of the most religious countries in the world. Most Singaporeans celebrate the major festivals associated with their respective religions. Religious tolerance in this nation is essential because there are so many religions. Many of the interesting buildings in Singapore are actually religious buildings. They may be old temples, modern churches, or exotic mosques. Religion plays a key role in the culture of many Singaporeans.

The total population of Singapore is 5.62 million, around 2/3 times larger than the size of Los Angeles. The annual population rate of Singapore is 1.3%. With such a large population in such a small area, the age distribution is very uneven. For ages 0-14, 12.82% of the population is in this age range while the age range for ages 15-24 is 16.56%. Half of the population falls under the 25-54 age range, with 50.53% of the inhabitants in this age span. Citizens under the 55-64 scope are only 10.46%; however, the percentage of people 65 and up is a mere 9.63%. This data means that most people were born around the same time, and most people fall into the 25-54 age scope, which is also the largest range with 29 different ages, while the rest of the age spans have 10-15 years in between. The life expectancy in Singapore, as of 2016, is 83 years old. Singapore has one of the highest life expectancies than of those in South and South East Asia. Along with having a high life expectancy, Singapore has a high population in an urban setting. In fact, 100% of the population lives in an urban setting, based on a 2010 statistic. Most of the entire nation of Singapore is literate, meaning pretty much everyone can read and write. 97% of the population over 15 is literate. This high number seems pretty reasonable considering that the area is quite small and is very urban.

Singapore has a moderate economy due to its strict laws. Laws on imports and production limit the amount of trade that is possible. Singapore loses potential gains in the market due to these strict laws. Their 2.5% GDP Real Growth Rate demonstrates that their economy does not have large movement and changes. GDP per Capita in Singapore is $90,500. This rate is decently high due to the poverty being non existent. The wealth of the state creates no poverty line for people of the lower class.

Singapore's history starts hundreds of years ago when they were ruled by Colonial Britain. Britain used Singapore as a major trading post and Singapore was one of their more important qualities. This all ended in 1965 when Singapore declared independence from Britain. However this officially kicked in in 1971 when British forces left Singapore, officially making Singapore an independent nation. About 20 years later in 1993, Singapore elected their first directly president in 1993. That was Ong Teng Cheong. However Singapore's history isn't without tragedy. In 1997, a Singaporean SilkAir plane crashed killing all 104 people on the flight. The same year Singapore's first economic recession happened. In August 2016, Singapore declared violations of human rights punishable by jail time. This shows them making strides toward becoming a powerful country. Now, Singapore's president is a woman named Halimah Yacob. Singapore's economy is now booming and is often called the fastest growing in the world.

Singapore has a Parliamentary Republic, which is a government having the executive power vested in a cabinet composed of members of the legislature. Halimah Yacob is the current President of Singapore. Other political groups include the People's Action Party which is a right wing party and the Workers Party which is a opposition party. A current political issue that has been going on is that the next Prime Minister of Singapore had a stroke so Halimah Yacob stepped up to be president. Since she is a female a lot of controversy and hate against her is currently occurring. Singapore is in included in Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), a regional intergovernmental organization. Singapore was one of the 5 founding nations, the initial goal was to protect from communism. As a region it represents one of the worlds most important markets for the U.S.

Sources Used :

https://www.seattletradealliance.com/blog/blog/post/singapores-economy-and-its-role-in-asean

https://www.cnn.com/2017/09/13/opinions/singapore-presidential-succession/index.html

http://www.singapore-elections.com/political-parties.html

https://www.worldatlas.com/articles/what-type-of-government-does-singapore-have.html
