Book review over banned book. First chapter book.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone is the first book of a seven book series. It is well written with amazing imagery and literary aspects. This book gives great detail on every character and situation. I believe this book is intended for students in grades 6th through high school. They are lengthy books with multiple chapters. Although it is a lot of reading it is a relatively easy read, it is easy to follow along and the profound imagery used throughout makes it a fun read for everyone.

I read every book over and over again. These books tell the day to day adventures of a little, spontaneous and adventurous girl and all the crazy things she does. This book in particular is about Junie being sneaky and spying on everyone. Everyone from her little brother, grandpa and even her teacher. She likes to be nosey in other people's business. I would recommend these books to ages five to ten. And the Beast could finally say that by finding love, he had lived."

To me this quote defines the whole book. In this book it gives a different twist on the classic story of Beauty and The Beast, it gives the story from The Beast's perspective and his life before the curse. It shows his misery and the confusion that he has inside himself because he is cursed and feels alone inside his castle. Belle comes along and he realizes that he needs to change in order for her to love him. He falls in love with her and it gives him purpose and meaning. Of course she falls in love with him back and they break the curse and live happily ever after.

Newberry winner - book review. Sixth chapter book.

The people of Protectorate who live in fear of an evil witch who lives in the forest, bring her a newborn baby every year in hopes that she will not harm them. The witch who is not an evil witch at all takes the abandoned babies to nearby villages to be raised. Until the mother of the baby who had been chosen to be given to the witch tries to get away but they catch her and give the baby to the witch. The baby has a birthmark shaped like a crescent moon, the witch accidentally feeds the baby moonlight which gives the child magical powers. The witch decided to raise the child as her granddaughter and they live together in the forest. This was an enjoyable read for me, I enjoy the magical, fantasy type books. This is an appropriate book for a junior high to adult age level. This book is very well written and the literary aspects wonderful, it is full of imagery and full pf twists.

The mom is saying that violence will not solve anything and that Ha will have to fight mentally and emotionally everyday, as we all do. It is tough coming from a world in Saigon that you have known your whole life to a new one in Alabama. She goes through a lot of changes in her transition and she has to fight through that everyday.

Historical Fiction - Letter to teacher.

Dear Mrs. Ruiz,
I remember you reading this book with us in the 4th grade! I remember trying to picture what life would be like on the prairie in the 1800s. We may not have enjoyed this book then but as I read it again so many years later I have come to enjoy this book. Sarah comes to stay with a family who's mother/wife had died and they were wanting someone to make their father happy again. She comes to them, describing herself as plain and tall and decides to stay with the family for a month to see if it was going to be a good fit. Sarah is from Maine, a place by the sea and she moves to a little farm where the family lives. She decides to stay with the family because as much as she loves living by the sea she would miss the children more if she left. Thank you for showing us this book. It was a simple yet entertaining story.

Life hits you with good times or bad times when you least expect it. Most of the time you are not ready for what life is going to throw at you but that is what makes it life. An 8 year old boy, Bruno, move near a concentration camp because his father just became a Nazi commander. There he becomes friends with a boy who lives in the concentration camp. They talk through a wired fence that separates them and at the end of the story the boys make a plan to get Bruno into the camp because he wants to see what happens there. Sadly both boys are killed in a gas chamber. This is a very interesting and heartbreaking book that demonstrates the cruelty that happened during the Holocaust. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in the events of WWII or likes realistic situations on real life events.

This story is based off of a real life situation of a man named Henry. Henry was a slave and his master gave him to his son when he passed away. When he started working for his new master that is where he met his wife Nancy and they had children. One day while he was ay work his wife and children were sold to a different master. Knowing that he needed to escape he shipped himself in a crate to Philadelphia where he had friends that would help him and he freed himself from slavery. This is a very interesting and a brave story of the young man. I think it would be very beneficial in a classroom situation where children can learn about the cruelty of slavery and the brave journey Henry went on to be free!

But one day the Peacemaker appears who is a prophet and wants to bring all the tribes together. He chooses Hiawatha to spread his message of peace. I thought this was a very heartwarming story, although Hiawatha is heartbroken by the lost of his family, the Peacemaker helps him find peace within himself and takes the anger out of his heart and they are able to bring the tribes back together. I think this book is appropriate for aged 6-10. It is a lengthier children book but worth the read!

Traditional Tale - Blog Post.

This is a classic tale of Little Red Riding Hood, a young girl who is taking goodies to her grandmothers house when she encounters a wolf. The wolf eats the grandmother and tries to impersonate her so that he can eat Little Red Riding Hood as well. As she is entering her grandmothers house she notices something different about her. She notices that that is not her grandmother at all and realizes it is the wolf. The wolf eats Riding Hood as well and then along comes the hunter and cuts the girl and grandmother from the wolf and saves them and they all live happily every after. When we were kids we thought of this as a fun and sweet story but now re-reading it as an adult it is a pretty morbid story! The aspect of the hunter cutting the girl and grandmother from the stomach of the wolf is pretty gross!

Coretta Scott-King Winner - Review

This book was very inspirational I thought. A 12 year-old boy living in the projects of Harlem, trying to deal with the loss of his older brother and the only way he feels better is by building things with Legos. This book shows a sense of community, which is shown through Lolly building at the rec center where he is building his community with his Legos. It shows commitment in a trying time in a difficult place!

Poetry - Recommendation

I would recommend this book to kids 3-7. It is an easy read and for those who can't read yet it would be a fun book to read to them! They are simple rhymes that are good for young children. It is full of cute illustrations that are enjoyable, full of ones like you see on the cover of the book!

Coretta Scott-King Winner - Blog Post

Starr Carter is torn between two worlds, one where is from a poor mostly black neighborhood and the other her school which is wealthy and mostly white. The hard balance of these two worlds becomes more difficult when she witnesses the shooting of her best friend. Starr is forced to find her voice in the matter and stand up for what is right! A very good read!
