Take a field trip! Check out one (or both) of the links provided in this week's Agenda. Be ready to share where you went as well as how you could incorporate these resources into the classroom. Bonus: What connections can be drawn to the Nieto & Bode text?

I went to volcano national park, and Carlsbad Caverns. Honestly the Caverns were more topical because on social media today a 30 year old bad went viral at a bat sanctuary as handlers flew it around the enclosure because it is too old to fly.

I looked at National Parks and clicked on Hawai'i Volcanoes. I could use this for a science lesson on volcano patterns, where they form on Earth, and whether it is likely that Washington state would have volcanoes based on where they typically show up on maps. We could learn how Hawai'i became a state to the US and the effects of colonization to the Hawaiian people/their resilience in sustaining their language, land, customs, and history despite being one of the most traveled destinations for vacationing and also facing devastation to their coral reefs due to tourists.

I explored a bunch of the national parks. We are in a science unit about ecosystems and this would be a great way for kids to see a wide variety of habitats. I also looked at the Native American Collections. Part of our curriculum in Social studies is Native American regions and how people adapted to their region. This collection would not only connect with that unit but also help students learn more about Native American cultures that are here in Minnesota and in our schools.

This was on the National Parks link.

I loved how in addition to the tour there was talk of the Hawaiian Gods and the importance of land and how it is all connected. This works very well with teaching how to understand values, philosophies and traditions.

I visited England - 10 Downing Street to be exact! I mainly visited there because I've been watching The Crown on Netflix and I"m super intrigued by that era and the royal family. However, I feel that I could have my students visit different countries based on shared and guided reading texts we use in the classroom. We try to use a lot of diverse, multicultural texts that reflect our students and sometimes students have a tricky time visualizing where the characters are.

I keep trying to add to the Padlet and it tells me Padlet updated elsewhere and has a button for me to click update. I click it and the same thing happens. So here is my response. I clicked on Google Arts and Culture and found some great pictures and articles about the Civil Rights Movement. I focused in on the Chicago Law and Disorder. It was really interesting and a great resource when wanting pictures/articles from a particular event. Side note if anyone hasn't seen The Chicago 7 on Netflix is based on this time period. Its good give it a try.
