I like the idea of using an app. I don't feel that students are using the agendas, either. I found one left in my room last week and it was completely blank.

I'm likely the minority opinion here, but if our "online agenda" has anything to do with Microsoft I'd rather hug a cactus. It's not user friendly, its a time consumer rather than a time saver, and we are moving to Apple in a couple of years. Personally, these kids all have cell phone with a calendar app already on it. I'd rather teach the kids to use that app.

So to sum up, my answer is it depends on if our online agenda is Apple of Microsoft.

I like the handheld one for the bathroom pass because we could manage the habitual hallway visitors, but I bet we could figure out a way to monitor that with an app too.
We have to be willing to move forward if we are expecting the kids too.
If we do go digital, we could post the agenda on the school web page and make it more of a resource than it is right now.
Doug

I feel like the paper agendas could be a really valuable tool for students if we took the time to insure they were using them properly. We used to do lessons at the beginning of the year on the value of keeping an agenda and how to use them effectively. Some of us also did agenda checks every so often and talked with students who weren't using theirs to see how it affected their grades. We seem to have gotten away from that (other than the AA lessons), so the students don't deem them important and/or have no clue how to use them.

Students were less likely to lose their agendas when we had the hall pass "sign out sheets" in the back of them; they knew they couldn't use the restroom without it. It also cut down on hallway traffic and bathroom issues because they could only sign out three times a nine weeks per class. ~ Kaci

I use them daily for my class. It is a great communication tool for my families, also documentation for needs. But I do not generally have more than 12 students a year, and other accommodation's can be made if it is decided to do away with paper agendas.
