In the whole book, Satrapi has always been fighting for her independence. Always fighting her parents over what she couldn't and could do. At the beginning of the book, we have a version of Satrapi who wants to do so much because she realizes how important it is to fight for her beliefs, however, she hasn't quite figured out everything that is going on in her society. As the book progresses, through both her own experiences and others, she learns about the cruelty of her world. She goes through many changes such as the introduction of the veil. Satrapi is toughened by these experiences and she experiences many painful experiences, such as the death of her uncle due to poor medical choices and the death of her friend's father. Through these experiences, Satrapi realizes that she doesn't have as much power against the wrongs in her society because free speech was repressed. She realizes that there are consequences to standing up against the government, which we see throughout the book when she learns about the fate of many people who acted on their morals. She is forced to endure the societal demands no matter how cruel they are, however she always had these thoughts about change in her society. She is releasing all of the suppressed feelings and emotions that she had throughout her childhood caused by the fear of her society.  My knowledge of Iran has increased, and I learned what happened to the citizens of this cruel place. I learned what the people living in Iran had to deal with on a daily basis. I was able to reflect on how fortunate I am to be able to speak my mind freely and not be forced to do things by the government. I can only feel for Satrapi, her family, and her friends, as her experiences have affected her in many ways. I respect Satrapi for releasing this book to educate people about her experience while teaching them life lessons. Satrapi uses many tools in her book to allow her to get her message across to her readers. She uses a black and white pallet but emphasizes each color depending on the mood (black for upsetting or evil moments). She also concentrates on her reactions to many situations which helps the reader understand what she is going through. She also uses the sizing of the people in her images to show the importance of different characters in her life. Her language use varies depending on the emotions that she feels in each clip. This allows the reader to understand what she is going through easier. Satrapi is so curious throughout the story of her childhood. She is curious about her government, her morals, the morals of her family, friends, the actions of other countries, and more. I think that this is an important lesson to people that curiosity and having thoughts about your situation make it easier to understand the hardships that people go through. In this book, she is sort of answering the question of what a childhood looked like in Iran, and how difficult it was to feel free. It makes people wonder how lucky they are to have a life without restrictions. Curiosity allowed Satrapi to develop ideas about how her government should be run and what should and shouldn't happen in society. Therefore, she was able to educate others on these ideas. This particularly interested me because I relate in some respects. I have many ideas and questions about how society and our government works. She lived in a society that harms it's citizens. She lived in a country that was in constants clashes and conflicts against the reset of the world. She lived in a country that forced its beliefs against her. That's just a few to give perspective on her situation. Anyways, throughout the book, her curiosity and happiness doesn't waver, even when she goes through traumatic events. She uses the first theme of the book, curiosity, to try and find ways to improve the wellbeing of herself and others. Satrapi also uses humor to retell her story. This is another example of having a positive outlook on life. This allows her to process difficult emotions which allows her to be happier overall. She goes through so much trauma but comes out stronger because she learned from her experiences and the experiences of others. Satrapi tells her story with humor and positivity to try and make it more interesting for her readers as well.
