Earth's core is so hot because of the residual heat of Earth's formation. As things like rock accumulated to form protoearth, their collisions heated them up. The earth's mass causes gravity to squeeze in on itself, adding more heat to the core. Also, elements like uranium that are deep inside Earth add heat in the form of radioactive decay. And lastly, dense materials such as iron and nickel sinking to the center of earth, providing heat in the form of friction.
