         <description><![CDATA[<div>Nationawide prohibition authorized by the 1919 eighteenth amendment  resluted from self sacrifice from war. <br>Foreign born population were accustomed to regular consumprion of alcohol. <br>"Sea Devil" Felix von Luxner, German naval hero, spoke to the US about his experience with alcohol. <br><br>-learned a spare tire could be filled with substances besides air, as well as binoculars and teddy bears<br>-the pillow he acquired had a hidden flask of brandy inside. <br>-bootleggers take care of importation of forbidden liquor.<br>- even the government knows about them, it is a respected occupation as it is risky. <br>-filthy saloons/gin mills(which took laborers' wages) disappeared<br>-poison and methyl alcohol replace usual liquors<br>-crimes have decreased<br>-populations are still used to breaking the law<br>-alcohol has spread to the youth<br>-less people would drink if it wasn't illegal<br><br></div>]]></description>
