Makoura is known to have some of the best sportsmen and sportswomen, you could be able to be recognized as one here.

We run a class called Arotahi, or project based learning. This allows you to work on a big project as a group using your own knowledge you have or can learn to achieve and represent your goal.

The teachers know their stuff, and not just how to teach, but how to make it enjoyable. and with many options to choose from such as, outdoor ed, music, food tech. It makes Makoura very enjoyable.

There are a lot of things to do in options.
It has a pretty good library.
It’s a very inclusive school.
The uniform looks nice.
Year 9s get 1 chromebook each.
Most of the teachers seem nice.

    I really enjoy being part of the EOTC group. It was awesome that the teachers saw that some of us LOVED EOTC and created a class for it. 
    Working with Sam Ludden and learning about the Waterways around town has been so interesting. 
    They take us to some really cool places once we went to a house where they raised eels and there was more than 100! They were big and small.

    I skipped a year 8 similar to my sister this year, and I was considering moving to Rathkeale in year 9, or maybe another private school in wellington, but eventually I settled on attending makoura, as I knew it was a nice calm environment with some great teachers, where you can get a somewhat placid education, without paying thousands of dollars.

    So at the end of the day Makoura is always a good schooling option.

The teachers are nice and like talking with us.     You actually learn quite  a lot of things. The teachers are not actually that mean! some are strict, some are humble and some can be  both. Makoura is actually an interesting school cause honestly there's  barely any bullying and at Makoura,  we're all friends.

Each one of our teachers cares deeply about each student and our learning. Our teachers always check in and make sure we are doing ok, all of the students are all really close with the teachers and are comfortable to tell them about our personal life.
    All of the year 9s are in a hub together. That means we are moved around and work with different teachers and students everyday.
    At Makoura you will have a different variety of classes everyday like
    Art, Science, Samoan, Maths, Literacy, Music, Te Reo and much more.
    I really recommend you come to Makoura college.

    When I first came to Makoura I was assuming it would be like every other college - lots of homework, angry teachers and lots of drama. 
    I've learnt now that Makoura is SO different. The work at Makoura College is a great fit for me. Makoura offers project based learning for students, that basically means you can learn about stuff you want to learn about. Right now my friends and I are learning/making a cake in a cup because that's what we wanted to research about. 
    Makoura has really been the school to change my opinion about college.

     At first I didn't know anything about Makoura but during the past two terms I have learned lots.
    I have really gotten to know others around me and now I have become really close friends with everyone. 

    If you are assuming that Makoura is a bad school because of what you hear from others, I really reassure you that you are wrong. Makoura has changed my life. I have become more open to everyone. I am not shy anymore. I've broken out of my shell and if I have changed so can you.

    There are lots of nice teachers.. (even cool ones )and a lot of fun activities that you can do like the Education Outside The Classroom (EOTC) where you can do a lot of activities like go for hikes get to make a lot of stuff even more and those are one of my favourite the others on are Art, PE and cooking. If you enjoy math as a Yr9,  you get the opportunity to work with a Senior School math teacher. 
    You should really come to Makoura there are lots of things to do and make new friends.

     I love how easy going it is, the way of learning in the year 9 hub and how kind everyone is. 
    Yes it can have its ups and downs but it's like that with every school except because Makoura is a small school it gets noticed really easily and sorted out fast. 
    To be honest I really love Makoura and wouldn't change it for the world!

At Makoura College there are many opportunities to get involved in such as Kapa Haka, Poly Group, and several sports. 
    I have participated in Kapa Haka, Poly Group, XV and Junior rugby, Basketball and Volleyball.
    Everyone here at Makoura college is friendly; you will never be left out and hanging by yourself, there are lots of new people to meet. The way we are learning in Year 9 is very different to the way you learn at intermediate. The teacher helps you with whatever you are stuck with. You get to work 1:1 with any of the three teachers. We also have choices around what space we work in.  There are techini classes such as cooking Art Samoan and many more. Also here at Makoura we do Arotahi which is project based learning. 
    I am pleased I came to Makoura College!
