The Harlem Renaissance was crucial because it advanced our culture by giving us more integration with African American Culture. Its important to know about when you read this book because it gives you an insight into what life was really like during this time period and what people were experiencing and living through. It fits in perfectly with the time period of the Great Gatsby because it is placed in the same era and same culture.

Louis Armstrong was a New Orleans born trumpeter who became famous for his role in the era for jazz. He was born to a very low class family. His father left right after his birth and his mother turned to unsavory jobs to provide for him. After he got older , he played in many jazz bands. Eventually he moved to Chicago to further his career. Louis became important in culture because he was a way of connecting the two cultures because both African Americans loved jazz and he was a great part of the jazz movement.
