The learner centered focuses on the need and attitude on individual learners. This is illustrated when he emphasizes self-expression and the learners and inspiring the deepest feelings of his learners. The learner centered method encourages the learners to learn anytime and anywhere this means the learners learning can take place anywhere outside the classroom environment. 
Dead Poet Society film takes place at Welton Academy, and it is a school for boys. The four basic rules are honor, tradition, discipline, and excellence. John Keating is the new English teacher that believes that the purpose of education is to allow learners to think for themselves.  John Keating was also against the traditional method which was normally used. He encouraged the learners to stand upon the desk, to detect the world around with a different perspective. John insists that learners should be critical thinkers “when you read poems do not only think about what the author thinks…. Consider what you think, strive to find your own voice”
Moreover, he shows that education can go beyond what the traditional strategy. John Keating inspires learners to go through his shocking methods such as learners jumping off desks, quote poetry as they kick the ball and also sneaking to the woods to read the romantic poems alone as a group.
On Dead Poets Society film: the learners create a group to got to the woods and read romantic poems this shows how it emphasizes shifting the focus of activity from their teacher but the learners themselves are responsible for their own learning. In this way content-based method is applied and the learner’s centered method takes place.
Example 1: with the help of Neil and Mr. Keating, Todd breaks out of the immeasurable potential, walks out of the shadow of being shy and becomes confident and sociable. This is evident when John said “words and ideas can change the world. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race and human race is filled with passion. Romance, love etc.”. This promotes learner centered method because Todd joined the Dead Poet Society, and his confidence grew as he becomes an extrovert. 

Example 2:Neil decides to listen to his inner voice and find his real ideal. Neil viewed the world from a different perspective as Keating taught them even though he was intimidated by his father and he was more stubborn than Mr. Keating, but he decided to follow his dream and take extracurricular and one of that was he played a role in the play without the permission of his father. Neil is later prohibited to attend the performance because he did not seek permission, but he got a role as Puck in the play. Neil is willing to sacrifice his own life for the sake of his beliefs.

Erin Gruwell does not only want to boost the learner’s academic success but also enhance learner`s self-values, confidence, cultural and racial diversity. She also followed learner centered learning method based on internal motivation. This is evident in the film because Ms. G listens to the voices of her learners, engaging interest, emphasizing the fact that they should ask questions and building their problem-solving skills effectively. 

Room 203 became the learner’s home because it internally motivated the learners. Gruwell captured the hearts of her learners and even won their trust. She promoted tolerance and cheered the learners up by being interested in what they like. It later escalated to the part where she took them on a trip as a class for the very first time to the museum and further booked them dinner in a hotel where she works at after school, they felt important.
Example 1: field trip (01:03:45). In this scene, Ms. G and her learners visit the Holocaust Museum. The learners show their enthusiasm and are emotionally connected with everything related to the trip.
Example 2: using a song (00:20:04). Teaching internal rhyming by the use of a song lyric. She uses popular song of 2Pac Shakur in order to teach symbolism and metaphors in her classroom.
Example 3: toast for change (01:10:08). Mrs. Gruwell encourages her learners to view their life from different perspective through the toast of change. She motivates them to forget the past and focus on the future. After Ms. G motivated them, every learner takes a glass one by one, and the toast starts with Gloria.
Constructivism through cooperative learning is also applied in Freedom Writers film. The learners are allowed to build their own knowledge rather than just passively take in information. This means they incorporate new information with pre- existing knowledge.
Example: in the scene (01:52:29) Ms. Gruwell tells her learners to compile all the dairies or journals into a book. This is implemented when she encourages them to write their own story. 
 Gloria: Mrs. G wanted us to put our dairies together in a book just like Anne Frank. She got this businessman, John Tu, to donate 35 computers so we could work. She told us we have something to say to people. We weren’t just kids in a class anymore. We were writers in our own voices, our own stories. And even if nobody else read it, the book will be something to leave behind that said we were here, this is what happened, we mattered. Even if it was just to each other.

During my practical’s I was in a school that looks exactly like the one in Freedom Writers but once they warm up, they get to be good and capable learners. Their attitude and behaviour are influenced by everything that happens at home, but their class feels like home because they are united in class.   
All three philosophies also applied in South African Education in order to meet each learner`s individual needs since it needs to be critically planned in a creative and advanced way. The methods are seen to be effective because it encourages independence, responsibility and it strengthens social relationships.
