My name is Amanda Isbell. What I want to learn from this class this term is proper education to pregnant women early on in pregnancy. As and L&D nurse, I only see the patient when it is time to give birth or when they come in with unexpected complications, and I feel that patients are not getting enough education prior to pregnancy or early in pregnancy. When I say education, I mean in regards to risk factors for a complicated pregnancy, what to expect during labor/childbirth, the different options they may have for labor and what could cause them to not be able to have certain options, etc.

I'm Lexi. My husband and I just relocated from Pennsylvania to Delaware and we are also expecting our first child this March! So its an exciting time full of big changes for our little family. I also have some big changes professionally as I left my job of several years working in a level 1 trauma center to move to a small hospital here where I am working in women's health and labor and delivery. My name is April Barbara. I am in the CNEP program (Class 176). I have been working in labor & delivery for just over 2 years, working for 2 years in Oncology prior to that.
I occasionally pick up additional shifts on our high-risk antepartum unit, but mostly just work with women in their last few days of pregnancy and help them through their delivery.
I have two boys (man-sized) that are 18 and 17 years old. While the day they were born is emblazoned in my mind, the details of my pregnancies are rather foggy.
I am beyond excited to learn about the pregnancy from the viewpoint of the provider, as well as have some of those foggy memories clarified. I am ready to tackle this learning experience and embrace my passion for caring for expecting mothers.

My name is Lindsey McReynolds., CNEP 165. I live in Oklahoma with my husband and 3 daughters. I have 10 years of in-hospital women's health, 6 years as a lactation consultant, and 1 year OB/GYN clinic experience. BUT... I'm not working this term!! YAY! In this course, I am excited to dive in to the midwifery model of care as opposed to the medical model that I've seen in the hospital. I hope to come out of this course with a good feel for how my practice can best serve my patients :-)

I am Mary Roth, class #178 and I feel that this is the course I have been waiting for. As an L&D nurse of 6 years, I know pregnant women from about 20 weeks+ but the first 20 are new to me, except for my personal experience (I am 15 weeks pregnant and learning so much)! I look forward to building relationships and having continuity of care and assisting with women to have healthy pregnancies. I know I will learn so much in this class and am very grateful to be here.

My name is Shandra Averett. class 188. I was an L&D nurse for 10 years prior to getting my FNP. When I started in the women's health clinic that I work in, I figured it would be a piece of cake, but had had to be taught so much by the other providers. I am excited to see the evidence based practice and learn the reason why I am doing the things I am doing in the clinic now.

My name is Nora Calhoun; I'm in CNEP class 172. I took off a term, and slowed down for the next two terms, because I gave birth to my third daughter this past January, so I'm glad to be getting back into the swing of things. I'm really looking forward to learning more about how the midwifery model of care plays out in prenatal care, since I think I can see the differences more clearly in labor and delivery, but I know the model applies to all out interactions with our patients!

Hi, I'm Jennifer Kim, CNEP. I live in Washington State with my husband and two daughters. This is one of the first of my core courses and I'm extremely excited to begin! I have been waiting for these classes since I started prenatal care when I was pregnant with my second daughter with midwives who graduated from FNU. I was so impressed by them and the way they delivered patient centered care; the delivery was also amazing! For this class, I hope to start learning what it really means to be a midwife.

I'm Alia Alexander, CNEP class 176. I'm super excited to be starting my midwifery classes and want to learn everything I can about midwifery care during pregnancy. This class is going to be especially interesting to me because not only do I have a goal of becoming a midwife and providing care to pregnant women, but I'm currently 4 months pregnant with my first child myself!
I currently live in
San Francisco with my husband and our 5 year old labrador. I work in the NICU so my professional background hasn't prepared me very much for this aspect of care and I can't wait to gain and apply new knowledge!

I am in CNEP and class 178. I hope to learn the techniques for prenatal care, such as fundal checks/measurements and when different labs are due. I used to do prenatal assessment and education on common symptoms in the home for Nurse Family Partnership, but have not done the hands-on prenatal care and labs. I look forward to merging the social and environmental aspects of prenatal care (which I have experience) with the clinical scientific and evidenced-based assessments, to offer comprehensive prenatal care. I am excited to learn the proven ways to manage weight gain or obese patients and how to best motivate lifestyle change that will last beyond the prenatal period. Lastly, I hope to learn best practices for offering medicated assisted therapy for opioid addicted pregnant patients, as this is a passion of mine.

I'm so excited to be in this course so I can deepen my knowledge of midwifery care during the antepartum period, learn the newest evidence, and gain a better understanding of my role as the provider.

Hello everyone! I have RN experience of one year in Med-Surg and one year in L&D. I'm looking forward to this class to understand how to manage common and uncommon complications during pregnancy. A lot of family/friends and patients always ask "Is this normal? What do I do about ___?" etc and I don't always have the answer because I'm trained to know how to deliver them or keep them pregnant for the most part. So this class will be an eye-opener and I know will give me a lot to learn. Happy studying!

Hi class! I have been in L&D for almost 7 years and in that time have seen lots of "high risk" things. I am excited to put all of that aside and un-learn some of the bad habits that I may have picked up a long the way. I am eager to get back to what is "normal" for pregnancy and birth. I am SO dang excited for this course. This program feels real now!
