One suggestion that I can give to improve the informal assessment strategies that the teacher used is that it is better if she has a small notebook with her where she can note her observation. Though informal assessment could be unrecorded, I believe keeping a record is important for future references, especially for students who are not actively participating in the class so that proper intervention would be given. She could have used a note to write her essential observation of the students' performance. Let us admit that we cannot remember everything, hence a simple note would be very helpful.

I have observed through the video that the teacher gave worksheet to her students with a pre-made examples that probably the teacher made. In the video, it was shown there that the students know how to answer the problem provided to them. To deepen their critical thinking and understanding about the lesson, I may suggest that she will ask the students to formulate their own examples. In this way, they could relate to their own example and understand the lesson in their own perspective.

One of the informal assessment strategies that the teacher employed is to actually check the schema of the students by asking a question that is related to the lesson (which is ratio). However, what I noticed was that the questioning was moving too fast that the students are having a little hard time processing the question, especially it was just dictated by the teacher. Thus, applying what we discussed, we should give at least 3-5 seconds of waiting time before giving another question so that the student could formulate their answers. There was also lack of a little directions or instructions like, "raise your hand if you are a fast runner". In this way, the teacher could clearly see and informally assess who are the student paying attention and are actively participating in the class. This situation is also true when she assigned the students to collaborate in answering the problem. She immediately asked the group what are their ideas. Hence, if I'm the teacher, I will wait for about one minute to observe who engages in sharing their answers and who listens to their classmates' ideas.

Informal Assessment: Was It Enough or Could There Still Be More to It?

The teacher on the observation video did a fantastic job introducing the topic which is Unit Rate and Ratio. However, there are some points of improvement that could have been done during the activity. First, the teacher could have used at least the whiteboard or created simple instructional materials to make her students visualize the situation that she is establishing which is a supermarket. Since they are seventh-grade learners according to the video, a visually-aiding classroom setup would have also helped students more in terms of activating their schema. Another thing is that she could have used the oral evidence of some of the students whom she deemed to be quiet during the collaborative activity by asking whether they have understood the things that they have talked about or not. Her manner of questioning could have been more deeper and sophisticated by asking follow-up and inferential questions (i.e. If you ran for like, 5 laps, how long would you take to finish the race?). Lastly, she could have redirected some questions that are needed clarity into their intended answers. As a teacher, every answer our students would utter, whether they are correct or not, should be accounted for and it is only a matter of skill and wit that would make these answers acceptable and aligned with the learning goal of a given topic.

I noticed in the video that the teacher gave students activity papers on which they could collaborate with their classmates, which I think is a good idea for student assessments. However, I noticed on the video that not everyone was called when the teacher was calling someone to present their answers. Before the teacher reveals and discusses the correct answer with the students, I propose that she allow everyone to share their thoughts and ideas about the given activity paper to provide more clarity to the students. This allows everyone to work together, relate, and share ideas for the benefit of the students.

to improve the informal and formal assessment of the students, they need to involve the students in learning and the same time learners should willing to join and activities and the participation it should be student centered, the teacher should have many teaching strategies to student learn..

The Math Teacher in the provided video knows her thing about how to assess her students. If I was tasked to observe the class, I would give it a 9/10, not all class are perfect or a perfect teacher. I would suggest that next time she needs to be specific when doing oral activities like when to raise a hand, giving chance to those who didn't answer, and instructing them to cooperate with the group when doing a collaborative work even though the student has a little bit of idea to collaborate with the group or should I say that let all the student participate in collaborations. The last thing that I would suggest to the teacher is that don't rush things too much when doing things orally because the students cannot formulate ideas that well when in a rush.

I've learmed a lot about the use of Informal and Formal Assessment not only in mathematics but also you can use it in other subject. However during the assessment conversation, the teacher did not call out the students when writing their answer on the board, even when they're only few students. Another thing is she did not use Instructional Materials to improve students understanding about the concept.

Throughout the discussion, I was able to observed that the teacher was effective in terms of activating the students' schema in a way by making the class interactive by applying question and answer learning environment. Overall, the class and teacher did an excellent job and the goal was achieved. In terms of my suggestions, it is really critical to constantly remind ourselves of the discussion's main goal. Our actions would therefore be directed and guided towards our objective in this approach. In the case of the teacher, I would also propose that they should always refine and reflect on the most effective and efficient question that they should ask to the student. I would also recommend the teacher to give the students more additional time to refine and reflect to the discussion.

The teacher did amazing, especially in relating the lesson to real life situations, and in using formative assessment to reinforce learning. To further suggest strategies, I may first lay down my observations: 1) The students are unusually silent; 2) Not all groups are called to present, and; 3) The teacher holds no paper to record her observations. In line with these considerations, I suggest the following: 1) The teacher may roam around to check each group and focus on the silent students; 2) Provide chances for all groups to present; 3) The teacher may use a paper to document her observations or a checklist. She may even use the video as a basis to look back.

The teacher's use of formative assessment to reinforce learning and apply the lesson was superb. One of my observations is that the teacher lacks paper to record her observations. The teacher can keep a journal or a checklist. She may even use the video to reflect. Throughout the discussion, a teacher who effectively activates students' schema by making the class interactive with questions and answers was observed. The class and teacher did well, constantly reminding ourselves of the main goal. Our actions would be guided by this method. I would also advise teachers to keep refining and reflecting on the best questions to ask students. Allow students more time to refine and reflect. The teacher who introduced unit rate and ratio did an excellent job. However, the activity could have been improved in some areas. One could use a whiteboard or create simple materials to help students visualize a supermarket. She could also have asked some of the students who were quiet during the collaborative activity if they understood the lesson and what they were doing.
