During the half of 1948, both the United States, and the Britains, decided to combine their sectors and powers into one single military zone. Then, France, UK and the US cooperated together to create a single, unified government into the west sector, with their own currency.

Due to the new currency created by the allies, the Soviets saw this, as a violation of treaties declared in the postwar. This caused high levels of damage in many areas, such as scarcity of food, gasoline, medicine and other human needs for the West of Berlin, because all transit accesses were blocked. Many people suffered from this scarcity, causing many problems, and it lasted until the 12th of May, in 1949. This was considered as the main problem that occurred in the Berlin Blockade.

For 11 months, the Allies responded to this crisis caused by the Soviets in the East by implementing the Berlin Airlift.
