1. Blocksi- the absolute best tool to help students learn and ensure they understand what you are asking them to do and help them to stay on task! The Message option on Blocksi is also incredible because it is allows me to have one on one conversations with students without having to involve all the rest the students, especially if it is private. It is also so nice that they can message us from their end if they don't want to post a question to the whole group.

2. Google Classroom- I have used GC for five+ years, but I feel like I am using it better than ever before as it is another wonderful way to communicate with students one on one with comments on their work. The rubric option is also amazing that students can see it all right there digitally and we can save comments to reuse them from one student to another. I have also learned how to hide Assignments and Materials until we are ready to learn/do them so that students are not completing work early before discussing it and becoming confused. I've also posted on my read aloud clips on Google Classroom which has been so nice for it all to be in one place.

3. Jamboard- has been absolutely wonderful for allowing kiddos to have a feeling of the classroom and gallery walks, creating anchor charts, and backchanneling while reading. It has been an incredible resource to have students collaborate together on one while in Breakout Rooms. They love it and gives them a regular type groupwork atmosphere. They have become SO creative with it!

4 & 5. Cincy Library Overdrive/Loom- (sorry for adding more, but it is true :) ) I have relied on these amazing sites to allow my students to access all their Independent Reading books that are high interest and challenging to them. My main priority is for my students to strengthen their independent reading game and this has been the key since they cannot access my plethora of library books in my classroom. There are SO many wonderful books available and the site works so well! For our read aloud novels, I have rented the books and then recorded myself reading it or recorded the Audible reading paired with the pages. This way, whether I pre-record it or record it live, students who are having tech issues or are absent, can access it all later! Loom is much faster than Screencastify and is more user friendly!

1. Engagement- just because we are virtual doesn't mean we have to make the learning any less fun. I try to ensure we are learning in different ways from week to week so it doesn't become monotonous. I also try to encourage them to have their camera on by having them physically raising their hand and show their expression as we chat and I teach so I can gage their interest and understanding. I continue to give them high interest content that is relevant to their lives and new so they want to come back for more they next day. Of course cliff hangers in our read aloud novels help, too! :)

2. Consistency in Location of Needed Tools- we created our Emerald Team Hub and I created two Bitmoji classrooms that house everything. My students know they can find everything for our team on the Hub from each class, to our Meet Links, to Tech Help, to Flex Info, to my Weekly Guides, to Schedules, and more. This has been super helpful because they know it has all the answers and they can always rely on it. My Bitomji Classrooms have also been an engaging way to house all the links we use on the daily for Reading and Writing with visuals to help them know where they are going. They love them!

3. Flexibility- Obviously as teachers, we have to flexible, but this is a whole new level of flexible! I have learned that even more so in the regular F2F classroom, students are learning at very different paces, not only because of their own learning needs, but also because of their home life, parent support or lack thereof, and technology reality at home. I am constantly reworking my plan based on tech issues and students questions that sometimes require a whole class answer rather than one on one. I've also been more patient this year than I think ever before just because of the nature of it all. We have the sweetest students who really want to learn and do their best, but lots of times they need more help they we may realize with a variety of things. I would also having students share their screen and also helping one another has been huge. They are wonderful about offering tips to one another! :)

- We spent a week teaching all things technology. We showed them how to organize their files, create a google doc, slide, sheets. All sorts of things. It was really helpful in the long run.
- Non-verbal responses are great, especially because you can't easily do choral responses. I like to utilize a lot of arm motions and things to help keep them engaged and encourage them to keep their cameras on. Tangentially related... I also always start class with a stretch break and play some music and set a timer. It gives students an opportunity to transition to the class and chat with each other if they'd like. I also take appropriate music request sometimes.
-Don't think that because you're virtual it's more challenging to do group activities. I've had students work together on the same slides file for a warm up, or play battleship to practice plotting points. It's very doable! Use it to develop collaboration and a team mentality. :)

Question #1 Blocksi is a must. I know we all use Google Classroom, but this virtual world would not even be possible without it. Master all it has to offer. I LOVE Pear Deck for interactive presentations. Kami is also necessary on a weekly basis. Break out rooms are a daily tool and the document camera...also a must. Planning some type of work that is not connected to the computer is always well received and mandatory. Games. Games. Games. There are many. The list is long...This is but a short list of survival tools. Sorry, I know you said 3, but...

-Team website: link everything to this and make sure students know it is their "go to" for all things virtual. Must have links for google meets so kids access classes through it.
- Blocksi: use it to monitor student engagement. You can also send individual messages to students (such as reminders to turn in an assignment or correct a quiz) through it.
-Kami, jamboard, & document camera are tools that make virtual teaching possible.

-Teach routines: how to join the google meet, how to turn in assignments, how to share your screen, and to keep their camera on during class.
-Use breakout rooms for student group activities and collaboration. It also is a way for the teacher to work with a small group.
-Remind the students (and yourself) that you are all navigating this virtual world together. It's an "adventure" that may include some tech issues, especially when the teacher gets kicked out of the google meet! There is a learning curve at the beginning. Be flexible and make adjustments as needed.
