Exercise 2 - you now need to introduce and discuss a number of different Film Editing techniques which cover both continuity and non-continuity Film Editing. Use the resources provided in lesson time and the discussion regarding different techniques. For each technique you must EXPLAIN - ANALYSE - EVALUATE - use the resources and carefully plan out your work to ensure you cover all 3 aspects. Show good quality examples both historic and contemporary examples of editing from different genres of film and television programmes to illustrate your definitions and where possible add diagrams and drawings. You must cover the following specific techniques:

Long or wide shot - often called the establishing shot

Mid shots

Close ups and extreme close ups

Camera angles - high/low/Dutch angle

POV - point of view shots

Eyeline match

180-degree rule

30-degree rule

Matching action

MONTAGE

Kuleshov effect

Montage and Eisenstein

In addition to covering all of the above techniques you must find 3 x other techniques to write about in your blog - you will also be requested to present 1 of these extra techniques to your peers in lesson time.

A summary is a brief statement or restatement of main points, especially as a conclusion to a work.

Exercise 3 - you now need to summarise your findings which will help you to outline why the editing process is so important in communicating a story or narrative to an audience and how the editing process can evoke feeling and response in an audience. Aim to write a few paragraphs which show why and how the two main features of editing ie continuity and non-continuity enable the editor to 'play' with the audience and guide them through their work. Highlight aspects of your findings from the work you have done researching different editing techniques to clearly show your knowledge and understanding of the editing process and its value.
