Almost every time my mom dropped me off I would have a meltdown. I think part of this was because I was so attached to my mom. The school counselor would always come get me and walk me into school, and take me to talk in her office. My second grade teacher was very understanding of why I would come in late, and she even made me feel important by letting me help grade papers and assist her. My mom and I asked my teacher if she had any time to tutor me, and she told us that I was, "beyond her help." So, we had to get a private tutor. A few weeks later, my teacher was passing quizzes back to the students, and paused when she got to my name. She called me up to the classroom and said she wanted to call me out for my quiz grade. I was so excited because I thought I did well and my work with my tutor was paying off. I got a 0 on the quiz and my teacher shared my score with everyone and said I was a perfect example of someone who just isn't meant to do math. I was afraid to ask my teachers for help, but my teachers were quick to pick up on it. Several teachers reached out and offered help and it made a world of difference. I was too scared of what they might think of me if I asked for help, but I also really needed it.
