~

Title: The world has made great progress in eradicating extreme poverty.”

Today the estimated percentage of the world population that is living in poverty is 9.1%. In 1981 the estimate was 42%. Britain, Japan, China and Indonesia and other countries are apart of the global effort of reducing the % of the population that is living in poverty. (47)

I can see there is a connection between the global effort of reducing the % of poverty and the United Nations goals. Africa holds a higher % of poverty, a lack of globalization could be one of the key factors that is keeping Africa from climbing out of poverty at a faster rate. (53)
~

~

Title: The retreat of the global company.”

McDonalds, KFC, Shell and Coca-Cola are apart of the many international companies that have the world in there hands. Between the 1980’s and 1990’s stock of foreign direct investment (% of global GDP) began to rapidly increase. But as of 2016, the total flows of foreign direct invest(% of global GDP) is beginning to subside. (55)

This article relates to globalization because United states is known for outsourcing jobs to other countries for better returns on investments due to the supply of cheap labor. With global FDI declining in recent years could that mean the % of unemployment is going up. (45)
~

~

Title: Why it is so hard to fix India’s sanitation?”

India’s currently one of the largest growing economies in the world, but with one of the worst sanitations problems. An estimated 450 million people defecate in public. With authorities planning to spend $29 billion in public expenditures, to increase subsidies to families and promote construction growth. Links showed little has changed. (51)

This article relates to development because it shows the disconnect of government interest on society. With villages aka “periphery and semi periphery” still being in existence in India, there could possibly be a link between sanitation and poor political interest the government has on the country. With domestic companies feeling threatened by international competition, a proposition for new trade barriers along with a rise in tariffs maybe be a possibly solution to curb trade disputes. Solar technology, appliances and C-series planes are areas of argument. (49)

This article reminds me of the late industrialization theory, the state should encourage domestic economic growth. With these factors being relevant to a globalized country, they can just as well hurt the economy. The World Trade Organization and North American free trade agreement setting the stage for trading, America is seeking remedy through rise in tariffs. (56)
~

With this form of monetary policy, the result was low interest rates due to the increase in money supply for the economy. As the flow of remittances are growing larger the number of apprehended immigrants are growing as well. (42)

This article relates to migration and remittances, since remittances make up a small portion of Mexico's GDP. With fears of bigger wall being built, certain data has been showing a reaction to the proposal. For instance, a larger number of immigrants are being apprehended at the border. With border patrol security getting tighter, this may be a sign of global governance. (61)
