1. Based on the principals of the LMX theory, what observations would you make about Carly’s leadership at Mill’s, Smith, & Peters?

Carly is not recognizing individual abilities and talents to the fullest extent.

2. Is there an in-group and out-group, and if so, which are they?

Yes, there is an in group, and there is also an out group.

3. In what way is Carly’s relationship with the four groups productive or counterproductive to the overall goals of the agency?

Her relationship is counterproductive because she causes two groups to feel ostracized. She causes one groups to feel validated, but the out group is large and it can hurt the company.

4. Do you think Carly should change her approach toward the associate directors? If so, what should she do differently?

She should try to build a strong relationship with those who are in the out group. This may cause overall productivity to rise.

Jack's group is definitely the in group, and based on the theory the in group is willing to go above and beyond and that's what they did.
2. Yes, there is an in group = Jack's; Julie & Terri's team = out
3. Carly's favoring of the in group, it seems to have a positive influence as they tend to be very productive. But it creates a counterproductiveenvironment with the rest of the groups.
4. Yes, she should try to change and show each associate director how they are valued; and she
should not be favoring to the point of isolating others.
