I felt like I could relate to Huck as I saw the world as this mystery that had to be explored. As we read the book in APLAC, I realized it was so much more than that. I’ve owned several camera bodies over the years, acquiring them with the money I earn taking photos. With this small 5 inch box of glass and metal I capture memories, moments frozen in time. With a simple click of the button I can evoke emotion, write 1,000 words, and inspire nostalgia or awe. My camera and the images I take are meaningful to me because with a picture, not only does it elicit memories of the scene, but also the moments that led up to it and the emotions I felt. Something as simple as a quick snap of my friend while outside can bring back a flood of pleasant memories from that time we celebrated a birthday by mini-golfing, or took a roadtrip to the beach. The lesson I learned was the importance of reaching out for help. In sophomore year, I had the dreaded Ms. Fong for Chem honors. I’ve heard stories about how difficult and stressful her class would be: and it was to an extent. I was tested rigorously, and numerous times throughout the year I failed or performed poorly. But from this class I grew, and I learned that reaching out to people is a huge step to success. After feeling I was always a day behind and understanding the concepts too late for the test or quiz, I reached out to Ms. Fong. I told her simply, I’m doing horrible and I’m not understanding any of the subject matter, “I need help”. And she did. For one whole tutorial, even with a long line of kids, Ms. Fong helped me fully understand, catch up, and be proud of my ability to conceptualize and grasp the concepts we were learning. She was willing to disappoint many of her other students waiting in line to help someone like me that was struggling. I felt like I was stuck in a downward spiral, but little did I know all I had to do was connect with my captor to escape. I’ve learned from this experience that swallowing your pride and reaching out in can open new opportunities and catalyze success. I've applied this newfound knowledge in nearly every aspect of my life, and it has allowed me to be proud of my progress professionally and personally.

I have several major goals, and one is to produce a broad portfolio of good work and keep high grades so I can transfer to USC or CMU next year. I also wish for my photography business to take off, and to do I’ve been establishing prominence on social media, reaching out to those in the industry, and promoting my skills. I see myself next year working incredibly hard on projects and academics, taking college and my professional life seriously. Many of my friends will be going to SJSU, and I plan to travel every month. I fell in love with SoCal, and I see myself returning numeorus times in the future. I’d imagine my schedule to be filled with classes, academics, studio work, and photography. In 5 years, I see myself as a graduate from a university in SoCal, working as a designer/photographer at a major company, while doing freelance photography on the side. I see myself loving what I do and being paid for it.
