Maple trees, like other deciduous trees, drop their leaves when the climate cools. This is a beneficial adaptation because in the winter, trees have less access to sunlight and water. By dropping their leaves, the tree can prevent water loss from photosynthesis and transpiration that normally takes place in the leaves. Trees also conserve energy during this dormant period since they do not have to protect the leaves from freezing. Maple trees reproduce by generating seed-bearing fruit called samaras.

The Guelder rose is itself pollinated. It also has lots of food and water which are part of the adaptation. The berries that it grows attracts birds and other pollinators to spread the seeds of the plant. Its an evasive shrub so it will take over the plant to spread and get more nutrients.

Camping in temperate deciduous forests is particularly enjoyable because it is usually warm enough to sleep comfortably in a tent. In addition, the temperature difference between night and day, when not at altitude, is not very significant, meaning it is possible to be comfortable during the day and stay warm by the fire at night. Because of the low-hanging branches, it is easy to suspend bear-proof boxes with your provisions from nearby trees.
