Ratliff defines specifically as "two or more musicians, or musical elements, acting in the purest coordination". His definition is crisp and clean and I agree with it. I especially liked how he referred to the coordination as "pure" as I feel it's the prefect word to describe the even flow of the music when put together correctly. Yet, how obvious it is when the coordination is not perfected. Different melodies, conflicting tempos, this is not the pleasure I'm seeking when I turn on my favorite song. Ratliff uses the "Help!" by The Beatles to exemplify what closeness really is. The unison of their voices creates a beautifully coordinated rhythm and is an excellent example of closeness. Yet, when thinking of closeness my mind immediately refers to a different, more modern artist known as Migos. Rappers known as Quavo, Offset, Takeoff give a very unique take on closeness in their 2017 hit "T-Shirt".
