though Jane was only dead for a few days, it felt much longer. the time spent in limbo has worn her down and made her resent Cat.

when she comes back, their relationship gets very complicated. Jane wishes she could die properly but still has feelings for Cat.

caused the fracture - he got infected at one of his & Cat's outings, and the infection spread very rapidly. he begged Cat to just let him be for a few days before telling anyone - he said its cuz he didnt want to have his limbs amputated & leaving scavanging, but its actually because he knew the infection spread too far to be stopped. unfortunately, he turned into a monster quicker than expected, killing everyone

Jane always wanted to see the stars - the hole in her chest is star shaped

the monsters look like warped shadows of people (based on nuclear shadows). they do not have souls, thus Cat can't track them with their magic sensing - from their point of view, the monsters look like black holes, sucking in all the magic/soul light around them

the use of magic is deeply intertwined with one's soul, which is why both are seen by Cat.

at some point, Cat tells Jane its their fault for killing everyone at the compound. Jane does not know how to feel about that, but she doesn't fully blame Cat, as she knows what would have happened to BF if he did reveal his infection.

Cat did experience a sort of grief, but it wasn't outward. also, they were still very much in shock and haven't processed their feelings over everything - after the loss of their soul, they never get the chance to properly feel anything, forever being stuck in the spiral of hatred

Cat used the older scavengers as emotional replacements for their parents

Cat & Bf have a close friendship group consisting mostly of other scavengers

scavangers go into abandoned city for recources & to get data on the radiation and/or monsters. they usually get around by bikes - theyre fast & compact

they do a whole bunch, but what's important to the story is a select few are trying to find a cure for the monster infection, as currently the only solution is amputation. this is done through quite inhumane expirements
