Its powerful because many see America in a great way but this piece brings out the opposite side. Hughes is trying to make the point that America has its flaws other than its great attributes.

The most powerful image in the poem for me was when the author says "America was never America to me" and "it was never America to me." It shows how the world saw America as a place of opportunity and never looked at all that was wrong with it. He saw America from his experience, and how he was unable to experience the same equality that other people did. He acknowledges that America is a place for opportunity and freedom, but that was not how it was for him.

The line,¨The steel of freedom does not stain. From those who live like leeches on the people's lives, We must take back our land again¨ This demonstrates the author's determination to fight until he obtains the freedoms that are lawfully owed to him as an American. This demonstrates the author's perseverance and belief in the American dream.

For me the most powerful image in the poem is "there's never been equality for me, nor freedom in this 'homeland of the free." This poem is powerful because he is being honest. For a country who is all about freedom, they don't give people of color freedom. The point he is trying to make is that America has never given him equality and freedom.

It definitely occurred in lines 17 and 24, these lines evoke a sense of rejection and disenfranchise. These lines made it powerful, because when foreigners think "America," they typically dissociate poverty and disadvantages with it. Hughes was trying to express the fact that, everything that looks great, isn't always what it seems. A prime example of this is social media, in front of the camera, someone can come look a certain way, but in reality they're another.

It was the most powerful image to me as to me when Hughes refers to someone bearing the scars of slavery he is referring to the community of African Americans who is still scared physically and socially. This is powerful to me as it makes me think on how those scars from times past are still here to this day

The most powerful image was when Hughes described those who were mumbling in the dark. The Immigrants, African Americans, Native Americans, and the poor were all spoken for after that section where they are brought up. What made this powerful was that Hughes gave the examples of who he is speaking for or about, so that readers could get a sense of the situation. Hughes was trying to make the point that there are countless people that feel differently about America.

For all the dreams we've dreamed, And all the songs we've sung, And all the hopes we've held, And all the flags we've hung, The millions who have nothing for our pay- Except the dream that's almost dead today." I believe what made it powerful was that Hughes was telling us his dreams barely hanging on wanting equality.

The point Hughes was trying to make was that America had been known to give freedom all around until it comes to people of different colors.

The most powerful image in the poem is "The steel of freedom does not stain". I believe this because it is something that is still seen today. America is highly known for its great "Freedom" a lot of immigrants who come to America come for a better and more full of freedom life. But once they arrive they realize all they have to do in order to gain citizenship and how they basically have to give up their own life in order to work to be able to have a chance of having a life in America. This being said you realize that there isn't that much freedom as they make it seem and I believe that is the point that Hughes was trying to make.

The most powerful image to me was in line 5 when Hughes wrote, "America never was America to me." This part of the poem is powerful because he writes it to show his inner voice and to show how he feels unheard and unseen. He explains that the country that claims to be full of freedom has no place for him because he simply does not receive the same treatment.

The mountains and the endless plain--All, all the stretch of these great green states..." In this section of the poem, Hughes provides imagery depicting America as a place that has the potential to be beautiful if its residents work hard to fix its problems. The idea of people working together to make America a beautiful place for everyone is what makes this image powerful.

To me the most powerful image that he conveyed was, "I am the people, humble, hungry, mean- hungry yet today despite the dream" (Hughes 39). I think this line evoked the most emotion since he's almost saying that we try to ignore the people that aren't included in the American dream. So he's telling us that today these people are still hungry, despite the dream that we say is relevant in all American lives.

The most powerful image in my opinion was when Hughes says " There's never been equality for me, Nor freedom in this "homeland of the free." The reason I think this is powerful is that America is built on the fact that it is the land of the free while in the poem Hughes exclaims that he has never been truly free the reason Hughes brings this up is because of the oppression that happens towards people of color on a daily basis in america.
