Students will analyze examples and non-examples to determine when two triangles are congruent or not. Using triangle congruence postulates (SSS, SAS, ASA, AAS, HL), they will highlight what combinations correctly prove congruence to distinguish these cases from those that only show similarity.

When students struggle to distinguish between congruence and similarity in triangles, it becomes challenging for them to correctly prove and identify the properties of congruent figures. This misunderstanding can also cause confusion about the triangle congruence postulates and which ones appropriately demonstrate congruence.

Once the class seems to have a solid understanding of congruence, students will be asked, Are the two drawn triangles similar or congruent? They will label their papers and write a short explanation of why they gave their answer. We will then spend the last few minutes sharing answers and explanations as to why they chose their answers. The goal is for the class to come to the conclusion that two triangles need to have both the same shape and size to be congruent. Students will turn in their papers as class is dismissed as an exit ticket.
