I try to find joy in all situations and look for the positives in every day. I try to find the joy in every fresh start that each day brings. I find joy in music. You walk in to my class at almost any given time and there will be music playing in the background. I find joy in having creative outlets - I try to offer as many outlets as I can to my students - Art, making up songs, dance moves, etc. I find joy in relationships. At the end of most days we sit at the carpet and just chat! Often times they ask to see pictures of my son and that normally sparks a million conversations about their families. I changed my career at 42 and it had been a whirlwind. I was a Scientist and a mother for many years. I graduated with my Masters in Special Ed. last year and landed at the high school. I have a passion for advocating for my students to ensure they receive everything they need to succeed. I am also passionate about building relationships with these same students so they understand that they are loved by someone.

I tend to brag on my family in any setting, including work.  I also am passionate about reading for fun, so I am constantly bringing that into school.  I share with my students books I have read and why I enjoyed them. I read aloud my favorite kids books and will tell them how and why that book is a favorite. I love sharing with them the way I escape from life with a book. Then love seeing them start to read some of the books I have mentioned that I love, even when I haven't read them in class.  The book below as my absolute favorite in 5th grade. I tell the kids that it is probably a little hard for them, but every year a couple kids read it and fall in love too.
