It was a hot day. Susan wiped her face and looked desperatley at the sky. She hoped she would see a cloud, at least a little, tiny one, but it was all in vain. It was stifling hot.

She picked up her suitcase, and turned towards the building. "Thank god there is air condition inside", she thought.

Actually, she didn't mind the heat so much - she loved lying on the beach and sunbathing. What she couldn't stand was the idea that she had to leave the city where she had lived all her life and go to a place she knew nothing about just because somebody said so. The idea itself made her sweat.

So she entered, went directly to the check-in desk and handed over the luggage.

"And now what?", she thought.

Susan walked to the gate and got on the plane. She didn't want to sleep but she was tired. She fell asleep. After eight hours she woke up. They were landing.

She got her suitcase and went to the lounge. There was a man with a paper and her name on it. Susan was surprised. The man was tall and strong and seemed friendly. He said: Hello Susan. Welcome!

Susan didn't know what to say.

"What am I doing here? This is all strange: new house, new people, new life..." Susan was very sad.

At eight o´clock they had dinner. Everybody was at the table when Susan came in. They seemed a nice happy family: the kids were laughing, mum was serving dinner and dad was opening a bottle of wine.

"So, Susan, what are your plans?" - "I don't know, I haven't decided yet."

"Would you like to stay here and look for a job?" - "Well, it's a good idea. I'll see. "

She drank a bit of wine and got red. She really didn't know what to say and how to react. She remembered her mum, specially the last days of her life and she almost started to cry.

"Anything wrong?" - "No, I'm fine. No problem".

But there was a problem. And a big one.

The problem was simple, the solution was a difficult one.

- Would you like more wine?

- No, thanks ... Jack ... Can I call you Jack?

- Sure.

- I don't relly want to bother you and your family.

- But it's OK, it's not any trouble at all.

- Well, you all live together and then I come here ...

- I said, it's fine. It's also my duty, you know. In the end, I AM your father.

There was a moment of total silence. The kids stopped laughing and looked puzzled at their parents.

Susan knew it. It was the big secret her mum told her in the hospital a few days before she passed away. Susan didn't know whether to believe her mum in her morphine delirium or simply to forget it. But later on came a letter from a solicitor. There was a father to be considered.

"How did you get to know my mum?", Susan asked.

"I studied my last year at the university where your mum worked. We had a short affair and I got back to England. Your mum never told me about being pregnant. She decided that way. I really had no idea. And now here you are. I'm very happy to have a grown up daughter ... and surprised, too!"

"Well,I suppose I'll have to get used to calling you dad".

"Jack is just fine at the moment".

They all laughed.
