How did your writing, including content, format, and language process differ between these two projects, and why? I will use the example of writing project 1 vs. writing project 3. These two works are very different from each other. In my first writing project I used slang, Spanish and an emotional appeal to get readers to care about my topic. I also had a different audience, it was for everyone to read and my target audience was college students who have gone through these same struggles. Whereas in my writing project 3 I used no slang or Spanish, I wanted it to be more professional and formal, especially since I had a different target audience. My audience this time around was the government and I targeted them because they control the money given to each school all over America.

Some of my best work would have to be writing project #3 in my opinion. I did so much work for that essay and I am truly proud of what I wrote. Thanks to the pre-class readings, in class- readings and in class assignments I have been able to work on things that can better my writing. During any readings I have make sure to take notes that I believe could improve my writing. For example with writing project #3 I took notes down from an article we read "This is where I stand" , an article about arguing a position. Thanks to my note taking I was able to highlight the key elements I need within my work. I knew my position, how to report something, review my work and how to create strong research methods. As far as things that I still struggle with is making sure I don't fall of track with my writing topic. I made that mistake in my writing project #2 and I lost focus of what I was truly trying to say, but with some organization tools i believe I still have room for improvement.

My advice for writers is to learn how to take constructive criticism. It is important that you understand why you are revising and why someone may offer you suggestions. There is a reason why we revise, to make our work better. Peer review is something that is very important because not only your eyes are looking at your work. Others can give you a different perspective or helpful suggestions to improve your work. I'll use my first writing project as an example. My group members were able to leave comments on my document that I would later be able to resolve or answer. I also had a one on one session with our professor who left comments all over my work which was nice because I was able to see her feedback first hand. It improved my essay dramatically and I even scored a 99/100 on my first essay! I also learned how to give constructive criticism rather than just putting Good Job! Or Great Work! I was actually able to give helpful feedback using Note, React and Ask.

We are influenced by our culture to read works with a curtain lens on. I give the example of "Everyone's a writer" article, we choose topics that are important and relevant to us as writers. We have to consider on stance on curtain issues and that usually stems from the kind of person we are. As authors we have to considers the larger context and we also have to think of our audience and the media. An example of that is my writing project 1 first draft.  The meaning behind my work was very important to me so I used Spanish, strong language and slang to get my point across. My culture has taught me how to be proud of my ethnicity and that's why it was so important for me to write about the topic of “The struggles of being a Hispanic minority in a white washed education system”. Even in my dear reader letter I had to write a disclaimer because I wasn't trying to offended anybody but I did have a curtain demographic that I was trying to target with my work.

Over these 16 weeks I have been able to improve my writing skills in many different ways. Rhetorical appeals was something that I struggled with for a very long time in my past writing classes, I never had a true understanding of what rhetorical appeals where. I can now identify how each appeal is being used in essays, articles and even in magazines. I have learned how to write for target audiences and how to grab their attention.  As far as my critical thinking and reading i have improved quit  a bit. Thanks to the pre-class readings assigned to us, i have been able to read more and when I'm reading i have used my critical thinking skills to compare the reading to what we are being taught in class. I have been able to be open minded, analyze the essay, and think with a more open mind instead of being stuck in one position. As for my writing process I have been able to use multiple different methods to help improve my writing. I was introduced to many different formats like, the box method, Rogerian approach, and bubble maps. I have also learned how to share my work with others and how to take constructive criticism. During our first draft stages it has helped me alot to understand different ways to brainstorm and outline. It has given me a better chance of writing a solid first draft. Thanks to our professors' timelines and due dates I have been able to stay on top of my writing process over the semester and that has also helped my time management skills. My information and literacy skills have developed quite a bit over this semester. I have a better understanding of primary sources, which are first hand accounts of something that come directly from the source. Whereas secondary sources usually describe or interpret something but make no original contributions to it. I also used The CRAP test to make sure my sources I was using for my writing were trustworthy. Whether it was MLA or APA I always made sure my sources were correct and they were cited correctly in text and in the reference or citation page. Overall I have improved my writing immensely over this 16 week course. I have a sense of authorship.
