We intend our project to contribute to a change in participants mobility and so help reduce carbon dioxide emissions. The
area around Vera is rural, as is Grevenbroich, and the car is people’s first choice of transportation. With our project we
would like to convince our students that there are sustainable alternatives. In this way we want to contribute to a turnaround
in mobility. Climate change is a global challenge and can only be tackled by the community. The European cultural
exchange encouraged by this project will help reduce language barriers and prejudice, allowing students to experience
Europe as a community, and so be able to tackle climate change together. To achieve this, the fundamental language skills which thus project helps to develop are necessary.

Good morning and welcome to day 3 of the school exchange program. The day started at I.E.S. El Palmeral with the spanish tradition to arrive 2 minutes late. While we discussed and talked with the other students the first little challenge seemed to start. A bit to early but in the end pretty worthwhile. We had to get our bocadillos (the name is too complicated so we called them just „fancy sandwiches“) and the man behind the counter wasn’t speaking any English. In the end and with third of English, a third of „Spanish“ and at least a third part of German pronunciation we all get our beautiful bacadillos with different toppings. And with that the real trip could start. After a 1 and a half hour drive with a bus we finally arrived in Cartagena. This city was an important harbour in the Roman antiquity and is also nowadays military base of Armada Española (naval power of Spain) [Picture 1]. Carlos, the coolest English teacher, divided the group into two parts. First we went to Museo Nacional de Arqueología Subacuática and learned about the history of ships and the port itself [Picture 2 and 3]. Because of the fact that our tour guide was sick it was a bit boring just to read the signs. In the end Carlos and a security guard told us about coins from under the water. After around one hour we had to switch the museums with the other group. In between the time gaps we ate the delicious bocadillos and went to the Roman theatre. We had a pretty good tour guide who was a bit like an actor. She told us about theatres and amphitheaters in general and later on about the emperor Augustus and gladiator fights [Picture 4]. Furthermore, we passed through a hallway where ghosts live, through an ancient living room and into the actual historical theatre [Picture 5]. After a look around, lots of pictures and some questions the tour ended and the groups got back together. The German students discussed some of the inscriptions of the theatre (Miss Hubernagel would be proud!!!!) and we started our walk to a viewing spot above the city. Suddenly peacocks came and we started to feed them [Picture 6 and 7]. To be honest it was a bit terrifying but in the end pretty cool. After some pictures we continued our walk through the historic city centre to the bus stop were our coach was waiting. Before the engine was started we saw the first ever made submarine. At 2 o clock we arrived at a huge mall. The two hours of free time flew by but in the end everyone was happy. The trip ended with the ride back to Vera.

After that some of us stayed in the city Center and tried to buy some souvenirs. Without anything bought we sat down in a cafe and the Spanish students started to play a card game. For the rest of the group, so basically all of the Germans, the game was too complicated and with lots of Spanish names. Somehow Maurice won two games without even knowing the rules.

The day ended with dinner at 10 pm. It’s a bit late for me but it was awesome.

In the last couple of sentences I want to say my two Spanish songs of the day:

Monaco by Bad Bunny

Si no Estás by Íñigo Quintero

And with that ¡Buenas noches! and ¡Hasta mañana!
