So basically if you compare the old aunties and uncles to us, they would be considered poor. Here, poor to us would be not having sufficient food or a proper roof over our heads; not making enough money. Plus, what if these aunties and uncles have children and grandchildren? They would need to work even harder for money to feed the entire family. For example, if this person only earns about $20 a day, some of the money needs to go to rental, food and education. They might also want to save up some more money for the future.

However, if you look at it from a different point of view, they aren't really considered poor as compared to the people in 3rd world countries, for example, Africa. These aunties and uncles most probably have food and shelter or they have the government to help them out with any financial difficulties. But in 3rd world countries, they might not even have a proper government. Even if they did, there's still a possibility that their government may be corrupted, and that they don't really care about their people but only leading their own good life in the office or something..
The aunties and uncles in the clip have proper clothes and some everyday necessities. The people from other poorer countries don't even have clothes or food. Finding water is also a problem in most countries as there is a limited water supply in the world and the ways of purifying water are getting more and more expensive.

In my opinion, even though we are kids and all, we don't make our own money, we can still help these less fortunate people in various ways. I'm sure they are having hard times at work everyday.. Even a smile or a greeting would make their day:D

Poverty is... everywhere.
It's all around us, even if you are not aware of it.
Many people may not experience poverty in their lifetime, but those who do... it is a cruel and unforgiving experience for them that is deeply ingrained in their minds and hearts.
Many people have different definitions of poverty. Like being poor, or not having what you need.
But the government is doing the most, if not all that it can to stop poverty, and ease the lives of others.
A person that I know of in the state of poverty is the old man that performs in the video, swinging the bead necklace around his neck.
He performs right out side of my mother's old workplace.
Poverty is a very serious issue.
We may not be able to stop it, but we may be able to lessen it.

To me, poverty is relative and it differs with others' perspectives. Poverty is something that is not really a huge problem in Singapore (compared to other countries) and I think that that is something that we're not grateful enough about. Poverty also differs with perspective, and in my opinion, this is because we all come from different backgrounds and we are all used to having different loving styles. For example, earning $50 a day could be a huge sum of money to some people, but it could also be too little for others, and it all depends on the situation or circumstance one is in. However, I think being poor is a whole other story.

People who suffer from poverty do not have enough of the daily necessities such as food, water and even house to live in. They also suffer to support their families. (Some of them live in 1-room rental flats which are in a bad condition.)
People who are poor may have came from a poor family background, suffer from a disease or disability or is jobless.
The community is trying to help the poor by providing free services such as cleaning up their house or giving them free groceries and food. We also provide them with entertainment such as small concerts. This is gives a little sunshine in the world of the poor in Singapore :)
These people are unfortunate and we have to be thankful that we are not in the same state as them. We should help them by at least donating some money.

Poverty is normally defined as having little money. However, I feel that you can be poor in the amount of love you get. For example, you can have lots of money but not have any true friends. Poverty is very subjective and varies for different people. For example, a rich person may feel that another person is in poverty but the person might feel that they are not in poverty. So poverty is really defined by you.

When I look at the old people in the video, they should be retiring by now, but they are still working. Poverty happens when you don't have a good paying job, savings or when you have a debt to pay off. Poverty might happens when you are not qualified for a good job because of your education. In Singapore, most/good jobs require you to have an education up yo university. If not you can only work in mostly places like Mcdonald when you earn very little. I feel that you should not compare the poor people in SG to the people in Africa as the cost of living is different. Jobs like basking is unstable.

Compared to the other people in Singapore, these people would be seen as poor because they have to resort to basking at crowded areas to earn a living, many days of which they do not earn a decent amount from. Earning about $20 a day, i would think that the person struggles with paying rent and affording food. Worse is that they might have a family to support.

Poverty is something that people experience all over the world. In Singapore, we are very fortunate to live relatively stable lives, and that is something that I think is not appreciated enough. Poverty is relative to each person and it also differs with different perspectives. For example, a person could earn $50 a day and that could be a large sum of money to him. However, if that person has to support a big family, $50 a day is definitely not a substantial amount. However, in my opinion, there are always causes of a problem, and I feel that there could be many reasons as to why someone is 'poor'. For instance, he could have gambled all his money away and therefore have to resort to busking on streets, but it could also be because they were born into an unfortunate family circumstance.

SO is poverty a state of mind? Also, i want to know how the government is helping. One cannot help a person without first experiencing what the other is going through. So yes, the government is helping, but is it really enough?

also, what can we do as the "higher/richer" people ? like we should help one another and stuff like that i mean cuz let's say 1 class aka 39 people gives a dollar, that makes it 39 dollars, times 7 classes and your "rich"

Wouldn't it be better if everyone got free stuff:D But like of course you gotta work too unless you have any difficulties. Like yeah, I know there will definitely be some free loaders who will take the free stuff but not work then after chope ing all the good stuff they run away into hiding. But that's their choice right? All in all there will definitely be more good people than bad people in the world. There will always be hardworkers. That way we can all live together harmoniously without worrying about financial issues and what nots... As for the free loaders, we could just send them off for a week of labour as punishment or something, to teach them that we have to play our part in making the society a better place for all:} Nobody would have to worry about insufficient money or not having a place to live in, we would all play our part in working (Perhaps only people starting at the age of 21 must start working) while getting a fair share of food and water to reward our hardwork:D
