In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird written by Harper Lee the character named Atticus Finch is the father of Scout and Jem. Atticus is a lawyer, one of the first Finch members to have a living outside of Finch’s Landing. His brother went to medical school in Boston and Atticus became a lawyer in the town of Maycomb. Atticus instilled his children with a sense of morality and justice. When Atticus agreed to serve as Tom Robinson’s lawyer, a black man charged with raping a white woman, Atticus exposes himself and his family to the anger of the white community. Atticus could be seen as the moral backbone of the novel.
