Three things that I have learnt:

- The 5-step reflective cycle will benefit me very much. As the children in my class are still dealing with their emotions and adjusting to this new environment. It will also help me understand them as an individual.

- As an educator, it is important to validate their emotions. Even though they are just in PG/N1 their feelings matters. And by appreciating their emotions, it will allow me to build a stronger bond with them.

-

2 things I can apply:

- To share with parents on this reflective cycle as I find it very beneficial to me. I believe it will help the parents understand their children better.

- Togetherness talk: I feel this is something that I will start doing. As it does get tiring to keep asking the children to do things such as cleaning up. I believe if I were to say "let us clean up together" the children will be more motivated to clean up.

1 thing I should stop doing:

After reflecting, I do have the tendency to point out the undesired behavior and highlight it during sharing sessions. This is something that I will stop doing.

Three things I have learnt:

- Teachers must address that children's behaviors are valid and must assure them that we are there to help them understand and regulate emotions that are new or too much for them to handle. And since this age group is not yet verbal, it is our responsibility to help them express how they are feeling.

- Must take note if a behavior was caused by an internal/ external factor to better attend to it.

- 5 step reflective cycle made me re- evaluate how I will handle children's behavior and emotions. It is about the child and not how the teacher felt when a certain behavior happened.

2 Things I can Apply:

- Provide a space for children to express their emotions safely.

- Get to know every child more and have an open communication with parents regarding children's behavior to better understand the child.

1 thing I should stop doing:

-After listening, I have reflected that I have the tendency to do "time out" with a child when a behavior has been repeated several time. Though not during the activity itself, but would sometimes do it after activity. I learned that I need to stop doing it, and be more sensitive with what the children are really going through and take appropriate actions like what the article suggested.

3 things I learnt from the sharing:
- The 5-step reflective cycle can be a great visual tool to refer to better understand our children's temperaments based on different scenarios and instances (e.g. cranky during arrival, refusing to wake up)
- Have a broader view of how we can approach and help the children based on their learning and self needs.
- Be reflective on the children's feelings and collaborate together with parents to better understand the reasons how and why they feel that way and what we can do to comfort and help them better.

2 things I can apply:
- Be patient and have a balance between gentle and firm when handling children (e.g. throwing a tantrum when his toy is snatched away and telling them that we understand he is angry and he should nicely ask his friend if he can have another toy instead)
- Provide a calm down corner that the children can go to and rely on to calm down and distract themselves whenever they feel angry or scared.

1 thing I should stop doing:
- Allow the child to cry to the side even though we have continuously reassured them that it is okay to be sad/angry.
