Yinka Ilori's work, on display at the Design Museum, is intended to bring smiles and joy. When you enter the museum, the first thing you see when you look up is this Nigerian parable picked by the artist "A smiling face dispels unhappiness" written on the mezzanine railings.

There was a particular piece of artwork featured in the exhibition ( Hallyu the Korean wave ) that stuck with me throughout and even after the exhibition. It was kyuhgha ham's beautiful textile piece that depicted a slight abstracted fallen chandelier, not only was the image extremely evocative and captivating with its use of vibrant colours but ham's use of the broken chandelier as a metaphor for the division of Korea into north and south representing that despite south Koreas social and economic growth they are still ultimately a broken nation. seeing this really set the tone for me when viewing the rest of the exhibition.

I chose to visit Ilori's exhibition because of the bold and bright graphics I saw when researching his work before going.
Using graphics, patterns, and colour is more than just aesthetics, as Ilori says, "a way of starting a conversation." Consequently, his work should lead to people feeling healthier and more joyful.

Yinka Iloris exhibition at the design museum was good. I liked the format of the exhibition as it kept you close to the art at all times. the text with the art pieces could have provide more information on the pieces as it seemed somewhat shallow in description. the pieces themselves were displayed nicely in good light to compliment the colors and shapes used.

The exhibition had a minimal and calm layout which made it easy to take in all the work. Most of Ibrahim Ishag's work has spiritual and natural influences which furthered my feeling of calm which I enjoy as sometimes get overwhelmed by information or colour. I actually got to meet Kamala Ibrahim while I was there as well which was exciting after reading all about her before I went!

I went to see Zadie Xa ‘House Gods, animal guides and five ways to forgiveness’ I was gravitated towards this exhibition as soon as you walk in you see two beautiful jackets one traditional and another tailored jacket with ornate fabric flowers. Women embroider fabrics to cover precious objects, when some one passes you place specific ornaments to protect the home and the deceased. I think the way Zadie Xa has exhibited how her culture celebrates and honours animals is inviting and evocative when you first enter the exhibit your senses are taken over by colour and the lulling of the background recording drawing you into her world.
