First, becuase most of the people do not see racism as a sensetive matter, these advertisement makers may get used to that. As a result, they unconsicously add the idea of racism and think it not a big deal. Second, if the audience think the ad convey racism, they it does; if not, then it doesn't. The ad can hardly be racist itself. It is the public who decide whether it is or not.

The stereotypes in the ads perhaps are intentionally made to attract a certain group of audience. For example, although the housework related goods usually find females for advocacy, which is a typical type of gender stereotype, it works because most of the customers for these goods are women.

Before the Pinwheel Discussion, I thought advertising should be full responsible for making stereotypes and let some people feel that they are offended, because the people who make those advertisements are not aware of this issue. However, after the Pinwheel Discussion, my idea changed. Now I think that it's the society who has discriminations on people. Take black people as an example. A lot of people think that black symbolizes dirtiness and white is clean. Then the discriminations become the thing everybody thinks. So it's not advertising's fault to create stereotypes and discriminations.

To talk about the side of business, it doesn't really matter if the advertisement include content about stereotype or discrimination(not too much). Once you see a advertisement, you won't really focus on the details of the ads, you may just think about how the content is related to the products it want to sell to you. The companies actually want to create a visual impact not about if it is somewhat hurt people. They want to make strong impressions, and let the costumers see it and have great interest to buy it. In this side, the content of advertisement is not really that important.

To stop racism depends on time because we always think that only elder people would still have discrimination. But most of them didn't use the Internet nor "Social Media". So who is creating racism? The advertising company. They deliberately use sensitive content about racism to gain attention from the public. Racism is not bad at all, how can we say sth is bad if it's profitable for business? We should create a new technique for advertising

I think the advertising perpetuates societal stereotypes is acceptable. We can change to another view point and think about this issue again. We cam stand in consumers’ point of view and then determine the advertisement. The main goal of advertisement is to advertise to the public and let more people buy the product. Use the soap ad for a example. In one hand, even those advertisement really cause lots of social controversy, it also successfully let more people know this brand and attract more consumers. In the other hand, this soap advertisement does not offense the Chinese where the ad take place. It even shows consumers a concept that this soap is really strong and powerful, it can clean all the dirty matters. On the contrary, maybe this ad gives a good influence and impression to consumer and consumers will want to buy the product. In this case, this soap advertisement success.

This seminar is a little bit different for me from the others. I am in a special seat that it helps to drive the discussion. The most impressed topic in my opinion is the racism in Asia. I believe there are still a lot of stereotype in the advertisement in Asia. That is because the racism in Asia is not as sensitive as in the western region. Therefore, most of the people in Asia even can not realize the seriousness of the issue. In a lot of Asian advertisements, people can see the racism, but we are accustom to it and allow it be displayed. Some of us even believe it is not the stereotype but the truth. It is an essential problem. Along with the globalization and development of education, I think everything will get better.

I think the advertising should be discussed in different ways. The advertisement may be either positive or negative. For the creators of the ad, they don't care whether the stereotype in the ad may have a strong influence, they only pay attention if they can get a profit from the ads. So the ads are always positive in their eyes, because that's the tool for them to earn money. But for the authors like african- american, they may don't feel very well for the stereotype.
