I see Zooniverse as a way to connect wildlife, zoo conservation efforts (like Wildwatch Kenya), science research, and everyday community. As both a zoo professional and global citizen, these things are all near and dear to my heart!

More than a million people use Zooniverse (Storm, 2015) and it has led to scores of publications in several scientific fields (Yoho and Vanmali, 2016). Multitudes of data can be collected in shorter time periods than ever before.

The ability to collaborate! Not only does Zooniverse put forth the invitation for anyone to participate in citizen science, they also allow the space for volunteers to discuss projects with researchers, and even a platform to build your own project!

The vastness. Citizen science apps like Zooniverse open up research projects to anyone interested, which is mostly a great thing. However, it still takes the "professionals" to verify and analyze all of that information, which takes an incredible amount of time.

Does it translate? The field of citizen science is largely seen as only an educational opportunity (Yoho and Vanmali, 2016), so it stands to reason that not much research has yet been done on how such projects influence volunteer knowledge or actual conservation behavior. As more and more projects are undertaken, future research should be done on the take-away and attitudes of participants.
