It is believed that he was killed by two white men who had to do with the woman he allegedly offended. He was tortured and then they threw him into the river, three days later they found him and sent him to his state. The former was in the United States Army during World War I and later received his BA from Mississippi College. He is better known as his law career. One of his first legal cases was, while he was still at Ole Miss, for a replacement case involving a cow.
