I have been reading Where The Crawdags Sing by Delia Owens. It's a beautifully written mystery about a girl who grows up in the marshes alone. It has many twists and turns and the author does an amazing job at weaving in character details. The writing is very emotive and the descriptive language is beautiful. I would recommend this to any adult who likes a slow burning mystery!

the boy in the dress! - chloe

a couple of months ago, I watched the series of the boy in the dress/read the book the boy in the dress. In my opinion, I think it is the best book I have ever read! This book is also about football aswell . There is a family and their mum doesn’t live with them anymore due to an argument with the Dad. Dennis and John’s dad now burns pictures of the memories he had with her. The boys, Dennis and John miss their mum alot, Dennis loves football and watching tv, John likes hanging out at the chip shop down the road from them with his friends. John LOVES school. On the other hand, Dennis absolutely HATES school! The only thing that Dennis likes is a girl called Lisa who is in his French classes! One day, Dennis got suspended because he dressed up as a girl in one of Lisa’s handmade dresses! John was looking for him all day he even got his teacher to help him look because he was so worried about him. Dennis then spotted that John was looking for him and hhishimself where he wasn’t visible. That day, at lunch Dennis got into a fight with one of his teammates friends and pulled Dennis fake wig and earring out. This book is also. so funny because at the end they all have a football tournament and the boys dress up as girls and they all got suspended!! I would consider their principal very mean and strict to suspend them even though it wasn’t on the school premises... I would definitely recommend this book to younger ones. I would also recommend reading the other David Walliams books such as Slime, Gangsta Granny and more, David Walliams is my favorite author yet and I can’t wait to continue on reading more of his books! Although this book is exceptional In my opinion, I would rate this book a 9.5 out of 10. But some who like David Walliams books may rate it more. I have also recently just read the Gangsta Granny book and went to watch a play of it at the Hippodrome theatre in Darlington and it was very similar to the book and series which you can find on BBC Player with some of the other series of David Walliams books. The other book I would recommend is Grandpa’s Great Escape also by David Walliams but you used to be able to watch it on BBC Player but it sadly got taken off. But if you got to watch it or see it I would consider you very lucky ( in my honest opinion) Furthermore, I can’t wait to see if any more David Williams books will come out even though they probably won’t. But all his books are absolutely exceptional, just like The Boy in The Dress! This book would be good for 7+ or under!

The Golden Turtle and other tales - Hannah Metcalfe

In the first part of the book there is a story called The Golden Turtle it is about a man who is a poor fisherman his name is Kobayashi Issei and he lives near a small island called Tsunoshima. Lots of other fisherman laugh and joke about him but he just smiles and waves at them. One day when he was fishing, in his net there was something heavy. And so Kobayashi Issei dragged it beneath his leaking boat all the way to land. He there then found a Golden Turtle in his net. The other fisherman were jealous and they made points on how Kobayashi Issei could make millions of cash just by selling the shell. They also made points on how they would have enough turtle soup for a year. Kobayashi Issei then ignored them and let the poor turtle back into the sea. A few days later a little voice spoke to him and it was the turtle. Kobayashi Issei climbed on the turtles back and started to ride deep into the depths of the sea. The turltle offered the man a fortune of a lifetime but Kobayashi Issei politely declined and he made a point that family is more important than riches and that he should also stay up on land with his family because he could be missed by lots of people. A day later when he went on his trip to fish for fish his net was filled to the top. This happened for weeks and weeks turned into months and he would always come home to feed his family and the people of the town. And he even filled the fisherman who laughed and joked about him because Kobayashi Issei was a kind-hearted man. The next story is called Amparo's Journey and it is all about a girl named Amparo and she has four brothers, Pedro, Jaun, Miguel and Jose. They all live together in the little village of San Colombo in Spain. One day, their money had vanished and they didn't have enough to pay the bills so Amparo decided she shall walk all the way to her Uncle Carlos who lived on the other side of the mountain in the little village in San Fernando. She packed her stuff and she was on her way. She then met a mountain lynx but she didn't get frightened. The mountain lynx decided to try as hard as he could but Amparo was too stubborn to even get a little scream of shock out of her. Next she came across a well and took some water out of it to then re-fil her water bottle. A man came out of his home and seemed furious at her. He and Amparo had a big fight on how she had the right to take some water out of his well because she was de-hydrated and she won. The man was astonished. At last she made it to San Fernando and found her Uncle Carlos. She asked for the money but he said dangerous men come round everyday and steal the villagers money. Amparo said she would find the thieves and take their money and return all the villagers money as well. The next morning the thieves came to take the money but Amparo was waiting for them. Amparo gave them a good adult talk and told them everything she had done and that she was brave enough to do things they couldn't. And so, she won the fight. She travelled back home and afforded the money to pay the bills and buy a new bell for the church that was next to their home. The next story is called The Naughty Leprechaun and its about a leprechaun but he is purple and very naughty. His name is Sean and he is from Oranmore. One day he decided to start a lot of drama and he decided he wanted to go steal some sea-gull eggs but on his way he found some other people to torment. He first off found a swan with her cygnets swimming across a lake and so he thought throwing a pebble at them would be very funny. He then got told off and didn't feel anything. He then found a rabbits burrow and he decided to stuff it up with rocks so they couldn't get in or out. He got told off but still didn't feel anything. He then found a squirrel and decided to throw all the nuts they had just collected into the water below. He then got told off but still didn't feel anything. He then found old Mrs Mullarkey's house and saw that there was fresh, clean washing on the washing line a took it down. Next, he saw a can of milk and knocked that over. Lastly, he trampled over all of Mrs Mullarkey's flowers. He still got told off again but he still didn't feel anything. It was now very late and so he decided to get the sea-gull eggs the next day. As he was on his way he fell into a mud hole and he cried out for help all the animals he had been mean to declined to help him because he had been so mean. But old Mrs Mallarkey decided to help him on one condition for him to stop being so naughty. He then promised and got out with the help of all the people who he had been mean to. Then, from that day on, he then was the nicest leprechaun in the whole of Oranmore and the helpfullest. I really liked this book because it had many different parts to it and it was very interesting to find out about new tales I had never heard of before. I would recommend people to read this book because it has a variety of stories to ready and its really fun. I rate this a 10/10 and I think this book would be good for 5+.

He soon works out that you can make things disappear that he doesn’t like such as broccoli and the swimming pool. He has started being naughty with it by getting rid of school books and a boy who bullied him. I am at the part where he is at the grandmother’s house of the girl who gave him the black hole. I am looking forward to see what happens next in this story.

by Isla
I have just started this book; I am really enjoying it. It is about when Edmund and Lucy went to stay with their aunt and uncle and Eustace Clarence Scrubb who is their annoying cousin. Edmund and Lucy were talking about their adventures in Narnia when their cousin came in the room and said "do you still believe in your imaginary land. Then Lucy's mouth fell open the waves in the panting were moving and the ship was moving closer and closer. The next thing the room began to fill up with water, the next thing they knew they were in the sea. Luckily Caspian jumped in the water and brought them back to the ship safely.

This is my favourite story by Matilda Woods. I have read it a couple of times. It is about Otto who went to stay in a hotel in a really cold town. One night, his mum went missing. So he went out to find her. He met a girl called Nim. She was a tattercoat.(tattercoats are children who live in the streets and steal what they need and only what they need. I really appreciate how it is written and would recommend this book to a friend.
