In this report, you will read about a place in Jordan that was
famous for many different minerals.
Khirbat en-Nahas or Kingdom of Copper is one of the largest
copper mining sites of the ancient world, built around 3,000 years
ago. It is located in Wadi Feynan between the Dead Sea and the Gulf
of Aqaba
Copper in Wadi Feynan was a very important mineral as it played a great role in people’s lives. It was
compared to petroleum nowadays. Copper mineral ores like malachite were used in industry to make
jewellery, copper tools and weapons. The people of Wadi Feynan were the main suppliers of copper in the
region.
Nowadays, copper's recycling rate is higher than that of any other metal. In fact, it is possible that we
could still be using the same metal in our pennies and electrical wiring that was used by people in the past.
Copper is used to make electrical wires and bronze.
