As it is currently spring season and the focus at my workplace is discovering spring and all the components. During Group time during the afternoon to relax children's minds and providing a calm environment for children to explore their sense of hearing we are going to play 'listening for instruments'. During this children will lay or sit as they listen to the song 'spring' by Antonio Vivaldi. This activity allows children to expand their musical knowledge and wind their body down. It allows them to soothe their body while keeping their growing mind sharp. This experience requires a laptop and a device like a interactive whiteboard or tv. After playing the music ask children how they feel and if they can identify or think of any instruments that may have been used. This experience will take approximately 5-10 minutes , the video about 3 minutes and then 5 minutes or so to discuss.

As we see lot's of birds in our everyday surrounding's you can't help but be a little bit curious as to how a bird moves. During group time to get the children moving for the day we will do some dancing and move like a bird. For this experience you will need a interactive whiteboard or tv as well as a laptop so you can display the dance video. This activity is not only fun but also a great learning experience for children to explore birds and how they move. The children and educator's can join in on this experience and become a bird themselves. Once the laptop is set up encourage children to join in on the dance video 'little bird dance'. This experience will take 5-10 minutes as you can play the video twice, first time as a warm up to get familiar with the video. The children will love this experience and guaranteed to be lot's of laughter and allows them to express themselves through movement.

Teleport to another dimension

Children love to explore different environments and become aware of their different surroundings they may come across. To incorporate drama into this children are going to play a game called teleporting. This game allows them to get thinking about different environments they are familiar with as well as the actions and behaviours that fit certain situations which can be useful later on in life. Examples for this game can include a library , their home or a rainforest. For this experience it will be at a park/playground. Children need to be spread out so they have enough room to move, the teacher will tell children how the game works and tell them that they are at a park and in this game they need play/act as though they are really in the environment. This game allows children to adjust their actions as they teleport to different locations. After the park it could be a rainforest as their next environment. This experience can be a warm up or go for as long as you like as the opportunities for different environments are endless. I actually use to play this game when i was younger and i was very shy at first but i eventually became comfortable and was able to feel free and to be able to express whatever i thought. This helped build my confidence and i am sure it will do the same with other children.

Rationale/Justification - Experience 1

i decided to plan this experience as it represents how i could feel during on my country visit. During my experience i just listened, took in all the surrounding sounds i could hear and doing this activity children will be able to really listen and explore their sense of hearing. Allowing us to listen allows us to be connected to place. A resource from this unit's materials that helped me develop this idea is Pauline Oliveros- hearing and deep listening video. Watching this allowed me to think of children as active listeners and that when we are aware of their environment they listen in a new way. When i was on my country visit i could hear spring, i could hear bees and birds and i wanted to provide the same experience for others.

i chose this experience as it reminded me of the birds moving in the trees during my country visit and it made me wonder how they move around. So i thought let's dance like a bird and we will have lot's of fun while doing so. When looking back on the unit resources i was brought back to the video - Moving ,about how they moved so freely and with no restriction. This made me think that birds are always free. Dance and movement is important especially in different cultures, dance allows us to understand beliefs and know we are connected to each other. This video represented the beauty of culture and how they express themselves through dance. This experience allows children to have fun but also a team, it allows them to have the freedom to connect to their own emotions. Movement is critical in learning and development process of babies, toddlers and children.

i chose this experience because when i was on my country visit i tried to imagine i was in a rainforest with all the trees and tall grass. Allowing children to explore their imagination allows them to boost their social, emotional and cognitive development. It also is enjoyable to be free and express your perspective.Thinking about what is involved in this experience it reminded me of my own childhood experience in drama class when we would play warm up games , it brought us out of our comfort zones and allowed us to develop confidence to move in front of other people.

Reflection

For me music is a way of giving us opportunities to express ourselves in a different way. Throughout childhood to now, i use music to relax and clear my mind. Movement and music is important for brain development and allows us to connect with others. Through drama we can be taken to different places and experience different environments. I also believe that music, movement and drama helps us explore ourselves. As educator's we can support children by providing them with opportunities to express themselves.
The resources that inspired me the most is deep listening and music as a language as they both displayed music differently and opened up my eyes to a new world. In the music is language video he compared music to communication and how we can speak through sound. Both resources also spoke about surrounding environments and how it effects music and the sounds.
I personally never played any music however music has always helped me emotionally, it has always made me feel relaxed and i can also feel the emotions in every song. I always knew movement was important in development but this unit made me more aware of how music is important in early childhood and children's development. It has also allowed me to understand indigenous perspectives and how children's learning is connected. It gives us the opportunity to take a minute and think deeply about our surroundings.
In my future teaching practice i would like to incorporate drama into the program. I currently use music daily to get children moving and to make sounds themselves. I would like to provide all opportunities for children to express themselves and to engage in social environments. I would also like to encourage children to use their environments and feel connected to them so they can incorporate it in music and movement. To involve indigenous perspectives in my daily routine i would like to play the song 'inanay' and 'taba naba' for children to be more connected to their environments.
