The War with Mexico took place from 1846 to February, 2nd, 1848. John O’Sullivan believed that the Americans had a manifest destiny to posses of the whole continent. Manifest destiny suggested and meant that the expansion was not only good, but bound to happen, even if it meant to push the Mexicans and Native Americans out of the way. In 1845, Texas was admitted as a slave state, Mexico still claimed Texas as its own and believed that this was an act of war. Also, some Southerners saw the expansion into Texas as a chance to increase slavery, but a bill formed which didn't allow slavery in any of the lands taken from Mexico. America offered to pay Mexico 25 million for Texas, California, and New Mexico, but it failed. Mexico wanted to defend its claims of where the Mexico borders should take place.
On April 25, 1848, Zachary Taylor and his troops were on the northern bank of Rio Grande, which Mexico thought, again that it was an act of war. The Mexican army ambushed an American group, so war between the Mexicans and Americans began. Many westerners volunteered to fight in the War that took place in Texas, Northern Mexico, and Southern Mexico. The war ended through the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. This treaty confirmed that Texas was part of the United States and the Rio Grande was the border between the nations. After the war, Texas was officially part of the United States and Mexicans were living in the States. The Mexicans had a contribution and impact, which began a new culture. Although, The United States promised to pay Mexico 15 million and 3.5 million of the claims US citizens had against Mexico.

The War with Mexico just ended and many Mexicans were living with us in the United states! I decided to buy land in the West, where I was going to settle and own a farm. When I got there, I was not quite used to the land and I did not know how to grow my crops! How was I suppose to make my food and survive. Then, luckily, I met a Mexican man named Jose Nugget, who later helped me develop the land for farming. He even helped me with mining and ranching. I could now grow my food, run a ranch full of animals, and even get my own minerals from mines! Thanks Jose!

I was a Mexican living in Buena Vista, when I learned about the Americans invading our territory! So to protect my land, I joined the Mexican army. We all prepared for this war and trained as if it was the last day on earth. It was a large army and full of men just like me. On February 22, 1847, our army of about 15,00 men, met General Taylor's army of 4,800 near a ranch in Buena Vista! I wanted to get rid of these Americans from my home, so I fought in the deadly bloodshed. Sadly, after a couple of days fighting, we surrendered and the war in the North was over. Thankfully, I survived the war, but after Mexico had lost, I could have the opportunity to live in the United States. Should I take the chance? I wasn't quite sure what to do, but I later decided to live in Texas. There I met many white settlers and I even helped them along the way, such as Billy Smith.
