The littluns' fear of the beastie has impacted the group by making them think smarter so they do things more precisely, and it made them start to work together as a team to figure out what the beast is.

jack: the beast has not frightened Jack. When the whole idea of a beast appeared, jack thought it was stupid and that there wasn't a beast at all. IN the novel when Jack says there is no beast he says, "Well then--I've been all over this island. By myself. If there were a beast I'd have seen it. Be frightened because you're like that-- but there is no beast in the forest" (Golding 83). He is viewed as the leader as the hunters and he says if there is a beast he would have found it already and taken it down.

ralph: He thought it was breaking up the groups sanity and it was all nonsense, but after a while he started to think if there really was a beast. SInce he is the leader he has to keep calm and try not to make the littluns scared and lose control.(88)

piggy:

simon:

The littuns' have made up this fictional creature they call the beastie. They are the only ones who have seen this creature so far. The leaders keep telling the littuns' that there is no beastie. The littuns' keep changing the beastie first from the forest then from the water, then from the air. The leaders have tried to find and kill the beastie if it is real. Ralph thinks it is a wast of time to try to find the fictional beastie that the littuns' have came up with. Jack thinks the same just if it is real they should try to kill it.

The littuns' fear of the beastie evolved and impacted the group as a whole by further spreading the stories and rumors of the beastie. The rumors and worries of the littuns' kept developing a creature that rummaged through the forest through the trees and left no tracks, a monster that crawled out of the depths of the dark, abysmal ocean, the beast not only represented their fear but stood as a warning to them that the night was forbidden. The group had become a tribe that feared the unknown and that what was the littuns' deepest fears of their dark, undiscovered home. The leaders, Ralph and hunting leader Jack, knew that the beast couldn't possibly exist, even Piggy believed that the beastie was impossible to be real, but even in the back of their minds stood a doubt that a monster couldn't exist on an abandoned island in the middle of the great blue. Their minds keeping them on edge so that even if it was nothing, they were prepared to fight or fly.

all the the littluns were afraid of the beast and it forced them to work together to beat the beast and figure out who the beast was. Some of the people in the group did not believe in the group but that did not stop them from working together There was a quote in the book that helped explain this and it stated "Beasts! Where from? Of course were frightened sometimes but we put up with being frightened."(Golding 63) This quote shows some of them are not frightened but they are all still together working.

The littuns' fear of the beastie has had an impact to the group as a whole by making the older boys think more and it has made some of the boys have to come together to find the beast and kill it. At first when the little kids started to talk about the best, the older kids and the leaders told them it was just a dream. But as they kept bringing the beast up, it made the older boys have to come to a decision to end the idea of the beast. After the news has spread about the beast being seen by the twins, a meeting was called. At the meeting they decided to hunt for the beast: "This'll be a real hunt! Who'll come?",(page 77). Jack suggested that they should go and hunt the beast, so a group was formed and the hunt begun. The beast has become a major topic among the boys and the fear about it has spread throughout out the boys. This resulted in the boys attitude for the beast to change.

The littluns' fear of the beastie evolved and impacted the group because it keeps them working hard and smarter. The kids in the group didn't really believe in each other. In the novel, it states, "Beasts! Where from? Of course we're frightened sometimes but we put up with being frightened." (Golding 63) This quote clearly shows that just because they are scared of the beast, they are still going to work hard and never give up.

The Impact Of The Beast In The Lord Of The Flies Luke And Reid

The beast has an impact on both the littleuns´ and the biguns´ because the littleuns´ instil fear within the biguns´ so that the biguns' have to try and ¨kill¨ the beasts. The beast may just be a figure on the littleuns´ imaganation, but they talk so much about it that it causes the older boys to want to take action to try and kill it or show that the beast does not exist so that the littleuns' stop being afraid and can help with other things, such as making huts, hunting, tending to the fire, etc. Later in the story (around chapter 5), the kids go and hunt for the beast to show the littleuns that the beast isn't real, but its just a figure of their imagination. Jack states that "So this is a meeting to find out what's what. I'll tell you what's what. You littluns started all this, with the fear talk. Beasts! Where from? Of course we're frightened sometimes but we put up with being frightened. Only Ralph says you scream in the night. What does that mean but nightmares? Anyway, you don't hunt or build or help--you're a lot of cry-babies and sissies. That's what. And as for the fear--you'll have to put up with that like the rest of us." (Golding 63). This shows us that Jack doesn't believe in a beast, but that he will go on an adventure to prove to the littleuns that the beast isn´t real and that its just a figure of their imagination.

The littuns' fear of the beastie impacts the group by giving them biguns' and littuns' something to be afraid of. At the beginning only the littuns' believed in the beastie and the biguns' just ignored them, but as the story progresses you can see that the biguns' are slowly starting to believe in the beastie, "’He wants to know what you're going to do about the snake-thing.’ Ralph laughed, and the other boys laughed with him. The small boy twisted further into himself.” (Golding). The responses from the leaders are mostly just ignoring, laughing, and picking on the littuns'. Piggy was the only one who seemed to care about the little boy. Ralph's and the rest of the older boys, except for Piggy, response was, "’He was dreaming.’ Laughing, Ralph looked for confirmation round the ring of faces. The older boys agreed,” (Golding). Piggy's response to the little boy was different, he said, "’Let him have the conch!’ shouted Piggy. ‘Let him have it!’ At last Ralph induced him to hold the shell but by then the blow of laughter had taken away the child's voice. Piggy knelt by him, one hand on the great shell, listening and interpreting to the assembly.” (Golding). Piggy was the only one who didn't laugh at the boy. The littuns' fear impacted the group in many different ways, just like how piggy had a different reaction to the little boy than the other leaders did.
