Lesson Plans taught to the students by grade level on Red Weeks:

Spring;

Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd will be exploring career paths, learning how all jobs are important, and how to identify work related tools and jobs in a variety of areas.

3rd grade will have the SAPP program. An explanation flyer was sent home February 2nd.

4th grade will also explore career paths, in addition to learning how personality traits and job satisfaction are often related

Winter

Active Listening lessons:

Kindergarten & 1st Grade:

Kindergarten we will read "Interrupting Chicken by David Ezra Stein,

and

1st grade will have "Lucy Walker, NonStop Talker" by Christianne Jones. After we have a discussion about how its important to listen to each other, not just be thinking about what we want to say . We will play a game with animal noises that will require us to pay attention, even when its not our turn, or you might miss something!

2nd Grade

Will have a variety of Listening activities, followed by a discussion about how this affects us in school and socially. We then will put our skills to the test when we work on a complicated but common friendship/school issue.

3rd Grade:

Beary Good Listeners! We will again be discussing some active listening skills, and practicing them in a complicated game of Bear Whispering....

4th:

Discussion & activities about listening and miscommunication. Skills will be practiced as well as asking them to give an alternative reaction . A "think it through before you respond" type activity.

Fall Lessons:

Introductory lessons to the counselor:

I try to make these as fun as possible to build rapport and so the kids don’t dread
me coming in (to talk about boring grave subjects!-which sometimes, I do have
to do!)

Kindergarten:

Counselors Fishing Trip:

I will bring my fishing supplies and numbered foam“fish”. Each child will get to snag
a fish, and the numbers correlate to a smart board lesson that asks them to
describe feelings (things you would see the counselor about).

1st Grade:

Mrs. Potato Head-

The parts of the potato make up what counselors do (eyes-seeing the problem, ears
for listening etc). Bonus, the word Potato will remind them my name is similar
Potato= Panuto

2nd Grade:

Character Crowns-

Students will be given a brief intro to myself
and I will explain that this year I will be focusing on the raider way- and one
of those things is to have good character. I will read the story "Making Friends Is An Art"

by Julia Cook. This book is about a crayon
that doesn’t feel he fits in the box, and how the other crayons tell him what
he has to offer. We will create an all about me crown with the crayons that

represent our own positive characteristics

3rd Grade:

Jeopardy- q’s pertaining
to the counselor, bullying and friends.
