3 TIERS:

Tier 1

As the school social worker where I could step in to help would be to help create a team of professionals at the school to facilitate a universal school nutrition program for all students’ school-wide, regardless of their ability to pay. In this tier the team would identify how many and which students fall into what tier category of support needed. The team along the way would establish a plan for reducing hunger among the students by analyzing that information collected. We’d used this data from the information to identify and combat the common barriers that create food insecurities among the students.

Tier 2

In this tier I would look at the information and data collected and look for patterns that exist on the students and see which ones have a greater need for added nutrition services, due to the existing barriers to nutrition that they face daily and look for solutions to help remove these barriers..

Tier 3

In this tier where I think I could be more effective would be advocating for more community involvement. Also in seeing what programs are out there locally to address the needs of student that have been identified as having a history of nutritional challenges. Especially the ones that are homeless. And these particular students I’d touch bases with regularly to make sure that their need for nutrition is being met daily. Also I would pull in their parents to give them the resources to help with the family’s need for add nourishment. Like helping with food bank applications, asking them to help implement a supper program at the school, or maybe to volunteer in a school food pantry to pass it forward in helping other families while helping themselves.

BECAUSE NO ONE KNOWS THEIR STORY BETTER THAN THE CLIENT AN THEY COULD SHOW AND TELL ME AND OTHERS ON THE TASK FORCE, FIRST HAND WHERE THE GAPS AND BARRIERS EXIST FOR THEM AND OTHERS IN THE COMMUNITY LIKE THEM. THIS IN TURN HELPS IN FINDING SOLUTIONS.
