I agree limit the talking time I noticed it was 8 minutes, the kids had so much to say and were very engaged !! ... Maybe a timer :)

Maybe when in person have students pair up in a turn and talk to have a discussion about the number talk. In the remote space: maybe the use of padlet or chat feature could help them respond to each others questions. Present the problem and have them take like 15 seconds to write theirs and 15 seconds to respond to another's! (SMP3) Exhange thoughts with others.
