Students need to learn how to build relationships in person and learn empathy. This generation cannot communicate properly and has no empathy for anyone.

Students have to once again "buy into" school as valuable. We need to teach them to be active learners and to value learning. Unfortunately, apathy is at an all time high. I know it has always been there, but it seems to be a growing issue. I know this isn't a good UDL answer; however, without student buy in, we are fighting a daily battle. We have many wonderful initiatives at FHS. How do we get student buy into the value of these initiatives, as well as, the value of active learning?

Expand career day so that a vast array of occupations may be explored by students. Ask parents to share information about their careers of aviators, psychologists, etc so students can connect the purpose of their courses with these occupations.

I think one thing that we can be doing, especially at the secondary level is incorporating a structured system of student advisory panels. I think it is important for admin and teachers to be getting honest feedback and guidance from our students. These advisory panels should involve many different types of students. (Often we only hear from our "involved" students--StuCo kids, AP kids, etc). We want education to be student-centered. Students should have an authentic voice in what we are doing.

Fraser has provided many initiatives that are inclusive but we could do more. PBIS work is working and we know this because it is data driven. The environment that is “perceived” by a student matters. Their perception is not always the reality.

We need to be more intentional to the development of the entire students well being. Offer more FHS opportunities for the disenfranchised. Promoting the off site or checking out can lead to a negative perception of school.

Fraser High School offers many different extracurricular opportunities for students to explore personal interests. I personal feel that we put too much pressure on students to "figure out" what they want to do as a career. Their ideas, interests, and skills are rapidly changing and we should celebrate that. High School should be a time of exploration not definition.

Provide an environment for students to learn and discover what drives them. It would be nice to expand the types of careers we introduce to students beyond what is already offered whether this is through speakers or career day, etc.
