It was March 23 1991 when the Sierra Leone Civil War happen. The war happen all because of of the unstable government and the many resources they have. It was a brutal war on that day. Sierra Leone was safe until that day came. The place was beautiful. It was suppose to be a shining light for Africa. It was to tell that there was still beauty left in the continent. But alas wars can change things beautiful to a big pile of nothing.

Another problem is the water. The people go to get water from polluted areas. Ever since the civil war, health problems have been going up. There are rainy seasons when waste goes into the water and gets contaminated. But The Water Project has been building wells to provide clean water to over 7,000 Sierra Leoneans so far. So they are still trying to solve the problems.

On August 19 the Sierra Leoneans celebrate Eid-Al-Fitr. It also means Feast of Breaking the Fast. They fast during the day but at night, they eat a lot. Normal business patterns may be interrupted. Some disruption may continue into Eid al-Fitr itself. Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha may last up to several days, depending on the region which includes Sierra Leone.

Many Muslims attend prayers and listen to akhutba or sermon on the first day of the month of Shawwal. These prayers are held outside or in large venues, such as sports arenas, in some places. Many Muslims may travel far to participate in these activities. Some communities organize different festivities, such as communal meals or events for children, on this day.

If a Muslim has not given zakat al-fitr during Ramadan, he or she can give this on Eid-al-Fitr. Zakat al-fitr is a form of chairty of a quantity of food, such as barley, dates, raisins or wheat flour, or its monetary equivalent given to the poor. Many Muslims may also prepare festive meals to share, wear new clothes, visit relatives and give presents or candy to children. Cards can also be sent, often featuring the words “Eid Mubbarak” (blessed Eid).
